Hey guys, the tires that originally came with my 99 expolrer sport are starting to get really ****ty. So, my question, which may have been answered already like nine times, is what are the best all-around tires that I can get for my otherwise stock SUV?

More like ninety-nine times................. :p

IMO, the BEST all around tire out there is the Michelin LTX MS. Is it the most affordable tire out there, not by a long shot. Is it the best out there, I believe yes.

jls99expo, I have gone through quite a few reviews on tires last week or so plus did searches here on the various tires plus at tirerack.com. I looked at bridgestone dueler revo, dueler a/t, firestone destination le, goodyear fortera,
dayton timerline(they are a firestone brand), michelin ltx m/s. Stay away from the michelin cross terrains, majority of reviews I read say that mileage is not what great even though tire is rated for 65 k.

I went with the michelin ltx m/s. Should get them today from discount tire (they had to order'm). I had oem michelin cross terrains, 1 tire is at 4/32 at 44 k miles. The guy at discount tire call michelin and got me a 25% discount on next set( that helped my wallet alot). .

Price wise, check sams club, costco, first, then go to discount tire, if you have one and see what kind of price you can get them to give you.

It all depends on what you can afford and what type of driving you do with your explorer.

Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth. Happy holidays and good shopping. :D

IMO, Bridgestone A/T Revo.

I also agree. I've had bridgestones, goodyear wranglers, and now BFG's (all A/T's)....

The bridgestones way outperformed the BFG's & Goodyears despite all of the BFG lovers on this board.

If you're not doing any offroading, then I would say go with the Bridgestone A/T Revo's. I have them on my X now and love 'em! If you're going to do any offroading, then I'd go with the BFG AT ko's. I had them on my truck for 50k and they work and wear very well, but they are noisier than most other A/T's. They're not as noisy as M/T's, but you can hear them.

For a stock size replacement tire for street i gotta go with Robb- Michelin LTX's.

Yup deff bfg at's IMHO, had them in snow, mud, and rain and love them to death.

Awesome, you guys rock...all kinds of quick responses to newbie questions. THANKS! :)

BFG AT all the way baby! YEEEEHAWWWW!
Seriously, I love those tires as they wear like iron and offroad capabilities are incredible.

I strongly agree. They wear really good too.

swampers will do you good........baugh nottttttttt.....um...id just get what ever is cheapest, but im cheap and save lunch money for stuff, id say get some bfg a/t....nothing bad abouth them

Pirelli Scorpion A/T

I have 31x10.5s and I love them. Night and day difference from my previous "all-season" Generals. Those things were terrible. The Pirelli's have a smooth ride and they handle great in good and bad weather. They also look good lol  .

Dueler Revo's are also a very good tire, but pricey. My dad has them on his SuperDuty.

Gotta go with Michelin LTX.

I don't know.. Pretty happy with the Toyo Open Country tires that I jsut got. Probably only put about 500 miles on them so far but the ride is still good.

I went from the 235/70/16 Michelins to 245/70/16 Toyos on my 02 Explorer. Only thing I have noticed is they seem to wander a little more in the grooves than the 235's did.

I have Dueller REVO's on mine, and with the snow storm we've been having up here the past few days, I've been thinking that I'd do better to get the Mustang out of the garage.

Super Swamper Boggers
Low noise, very good milage/wear, and also very cheap.

:p
