hey guys, i am new to the forum but have admired all of you and your trucks for years. i only have 2wd and have never wheeled in snow but i would love to see everyone's trucks offroad and meet people from the forum. would i (and a friend) be able to be a passenger in someone's truck if i can drive myself to big bear, and would i be able to leave my truck somewhere safe? i would especially love to go because i would not be able to make moab and i dream of going there someday, and you all said you wanted to get new people out there.

I doubt there will be much snow up there by the time we head there, you have a nice truck with good clearance you might be able to make it.

There can be a LOT of snow up here in mid April. It just depends on whether or not a decent sized storm hits between now and then. If there are no new storms at all, then there will probably be no snow. If there ARE any storms before then, then there will probably be some snow.I doubt there will be much snow up there by the time we head there, you have a nice truck with good clearance you might be able to make it.
As for 2wd, I would advise against it depending on which trails are run. A group of us did the easier parts of John Bull and Gold Mountain in May last year (totally dry) and two nicely (4" +) lifted 2wd Explorers got stuck on numerous occasions. In April, the trails could be worse.
That's not to say "don't come with a 2wd". Just don't expect to be running all the same trails as everyone else.

Sound's like fun! I might come up for Saturday depending on what trails you end up running. Then again, we might just beable to get a couple of the smaller X's together for some easier stuff.

An update to this. Us "big dogs" have decided to have a cage building party rather than doing this run as planned. You are welcome to still run it, or wait for another weekend once we feel safe again.

Guess not?So is anyone still thinking about this?
I should be in the area one way or another since I have a friend who will be checking out one of the mines off highway 18 (north of Big Bear, past Jacoby Cyn) with a caving club on Saturday (April 14th). If anyone wants to meet up, post/pm.
