Broken Radius Arms!!!!

The other day I decided to put new shocks on my 94 4x4. The rear were no problem but, the front were another story. On both sides the the end of the shock stud on the radius arms broke off at the exact same place. Has this happened to anuopne else. Possible factory defect? The ford dealership told me the only way to fix this problem was to replace the entire arm, so I went about an inch behind the orginal studs and put in new studs(Saving myself over 300 dollars). I still clear the tires and noticed almost no difference in ride.. Has anoune else had this problem or have any ideas as to wether or not I will experience problems with this new set up.

Our 92 XLT 4 door had the passenger side shock mount snap off the radius arm at around 160k miles. I took it to Desert Rat and they welded it back on for me (with a backing plate). I haven't had any problems since then.

I had the same problem on my 94 sport. I did the same thing by drilling out the old bolt and welding in a new one.
