Brown Wire Mod Milage

right now im running 31's with my stock 3.55 gears and mileage sucks, i've done the brown wire mod and it says that you wont get a significant increase in milage because all the 4x4 parts are still moving or something cuz i have a 98 but im wondering if i will get better milage because my gears have trouble pushin my heavy 31's so do you think i can get better mileage driving in 2wd?

If mileage is an issue then I'd definately work on swapping in some 4.10:1 gears. I've got 4.10's stock with 29.5" tires, and I'm going back to 30" tires next time. With the brown wire controlled you can at least change the rear gears without having to do the fronts immediately. Hunt around to find someone who can do the front gears for you. I even think that someone here was selling a 4.10 front differential very recently. Try to find that if you can. Good luck,

ok all i got to say is big tires = crappier gas milage i dun know about 31s but i know with 33s running 3.73s you'll get 11-12MPG. i think you would have better results with the bigger gears still though maybe 13-14mpg witht he 31s. i'd diffently go up to 3.73s or 4.10s.

i know i want 4.10's but it's an expensive upgrade, i just wanna know if driving in 2wd is gona improve my milage since it wont be pushing the front tires

Gear change is not an expensive change- I will sell my front diff for $200 shipped. The rear can be done for ~$300, depending on many things.

Brown wire mod wont affect mileage any, the 4wd only kicks in in situations where it senses slipage. It only allows control over when the 4wd kicks in.

thats a good deal on that 4.10 diff.

i'd deffinetly put 4.10 in the rear. I ran 33's with a 3.55 open rear. talk about no power and horrible gas mileage. but thats being upgraded to a 4.88 or 5.13 during my swap!

lol its expensive for me, im still in High School and dont have a job but i graduate in a couple weeks then its off to fire fighters school!
