C & L MAF Install

Al, I was just on C&L performances website, and do not see the MAF for the explorers, which one did you buy? Coz I would not mind picking one of those up.

They don't list one specific for Explorers. Email Doug @ bamachips. He'll sort you out.

Has anyone found a way to support the MAF housing with an intake installed? It looks damn near impossible.

Depends on your intake. Darn easy with a Volant.

has anyone put this on a OHV 4.0? If so how did it work out for you? Any dyno numbers?

I have not done any mileage studies, yet. Soon come ....

I did install the 93 Tune ( dyno tuned for my truck ) today, filled with 93 Amoco and went for a test drive.

What a kick in the arse the combo of the C & L and Doug's ( http://www.bamachips.com/ ) 93 Tune made.

Very impressed with the combo. A trip to the dyno ( http://proautotech.com/ ) is in the works.

Jeff, glad to see that it works in your Mustang; now get one for the new truck ....

Who does better tunes doug or james since they both cost the same amount of $$$$.

Also I made a custom MAF housing, well actually i just bought some water pipes that was 3" and drilled a big enough hole to slide my stock MAF sensor and hot glued it in there so no air can leak. I also bought the ford racing TB the one for the mustang you have, yeah well the bolt patterns dont line up but i did however port the hell out of my stock TB. During my tune with my flasher i un-plugged the stock TB thats on there and plugged it into the mustang TB. I Thought with the amount of air i am getting out of the stock TB thats on there now is equal to or greater than the air i would be getting with the 70mm one. Do you see anything wrong with that? tricking the computer i guess you would call it.

The other mod was this, I cut my cat and muffler off and replaced it with a 2" pipe and it sounds good "too me" and i noticed some HP gains and MPG gains. I did buy a cherry bomb muffler but it was too quite "for me" Do you see anything wrong that mod i just mentioned? would i get more power if i put the muffler on?

My check engine light keeps coming on after about.. i dont know 20-30 miles. Every time i read the codes on my flasher it says system running to lean. Even when i tuned the damn thing to run super rich. No matter how rich i tune it the trouble code always says too lean i dont understand.

Would a custom tune stop the too lean problem. I think i remember someone on hear telling me that i have to get a custom tune once i get a larger MAF

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Taking a shot in the dark because this thread seems dead but i have a 93 ranger 4.0 OHV (X) (EEC4-OBD1), I didnt figure the website would have a clue what im talking bout this many years later or if doug would even still be available, but after i do the 422 CAM with headers, BBk's bigger TB, and bored .40 over i figured i would need a bigger MAF and a tune but the maf's gotta come before the tune. All i can find for the C&L 73mm MAF is from C&L Mustang 73mm Mass Air Meter / Sensor Housing 600053 (86-93 5.0L, Excluding Cobra) - Free Shipping and it only states 86-93 5.0 (excluding Cobra) (19/lb injectors) and i cant find any info saying its compatible with the 4.0 i called the american racing website but that wasnt much help. but being an EEC4 with a 4pin connector on the maf doesnt it only send 1 signal to the ecm which controlls load spark ect (o-5v)?? wouldnt i just match the injector size and check the voltage thru an rpm sweep to make sure its the same as the stock maf was at certain rpm levels and thru the sweep??? cause wouldnt a 4.0 with mods pull about the same mass of air as a stock 5.0 if not more?? so if the injectors match wouldnt all i be looking for was to make sure the voltage stayed same as stock thru the rpm sweep and at held rpm's???

I'm sure someone could help you but Al passed away some time ago. Contact Doug at Bama if he's still there.
