2000 Explorer xlt 5.0
I have read alot of great information on this subject, but it all seems to be for 96 to 98. Im saying this because when i look for the alighnment tool to do the job i can only find ones for 96-98. Is there something different from 99-01 5.0's? Does anyone know what needs to be done, and if it needs to be alighned then? what brand syncro should i goo with and where should i but it?
Thanks guys

I am not sure if the synch is different or not-but the sensor itself changed from a 3 conductor to 2.

I would assume the tool will work though. If not you could return it I bet.

If all else fails call a Ford dealer and ask their parts department. If I had my alignment tool mine with me I'd look and see what it says.

It is an OTC #6469. There is a slip of paper inside the package that list every that Ford it works on.

I'll look at it when I get home.

Both the sensor and tool are different between the 2 year ranges - you will need to get the right ones.

I would go with the OE Ford Synchronizer and/or CMS parts even though they are more money. Too many problems reported with the cheap Chinese knock-offs (often found on eBay or under the Dorman brand at the chain parts houses).

As far as the tools go, either Ford or OTC should do the job equally well. It's a safe bet that the OTC tools are cheaper.

Genuine Ford tools:
303-562 - 96~98 5.0L
303-630 - 99~01 5.0L

OTC:
6469 - 96~98 5.0L
6470 - 99~01 5.0L

This is where I got my syncronizer & CMS
http://www.fordpartsonline.com/

They are a Ford dealer in Texas but are much cheaper than the local dealers.

When I was looking for the tool I called a Ford dealer and they didn't stock it. They told me the OTC # and check with an OTC distributor.
