Hey guys. I just need some tips for putting in a camshaft synchronizer in a 97 5.0 Eddie Bauer Explorer. Just need tips on the timing and making sure everything goes in correctly.

in a 4 stroke engine the piston will come to Top dead center 2 times, once for compression and once for exhaust.

Set the #1 piston to TDC for the compression stroke by removing the spark plug, insert a compression gauge and slowly turn engine until compression builds. Now go look at the timing marks on the crank pulley. When you get to 0, back off to -10 degrees, place tool onto the new cam synch and drop it in. Tighten it down with the tool in place, keeping the connector facing forward enough for the wire harness to reach it.

it is that easy.

Or, if your present sensor flag is intact you could rotate the engine by hand until the tool fits, then remove the old synch unit, place tool on new unit and replace.

You do need the tool.
