2012 Explorer Base
Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2012 Explorer base with XM Radio, and thought I was also getting SYNC because of the Phone and numberpad buttons. Apparently though that is an additional $295. I have already purchased the car and only realized it when I got home and started trying to set it up.

Is it possible for the dealer to install the SYNC module after purchase? I called the dealer and they did not give me a definitive answer, just that they cannot order the parts but that did not mean it wasn't possible - not helpful!

Unfortunately, SYNC can not be added to your vehicle after it leaves the factory. Check with your dealer to see what their return policy is; maybe you can swap it with an Explorer that has SYNC.

Sync on base model

The same thing happened to me yesterday, the Ford website says ford sync basic is "standard" equipment on 2012 ford explorer (base model). Also listed on http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/configurations/?vehicle=explorer
website as standard equipment. However after I got the car home i realized it doesn't have this feature. Talk about false advertisement!

I think their pushing sync a little too hard & leading people to believe its standard equipment. Their website certainly leads you to believe this, time you leave the dealership it's likely too late.
