One of my wheels on my explorer is deffective and has some rust on it. A few years ago I used some steel wool on it and it removed alot of the rust and helped it match with the other silver wheels again. Now it's happening again on the inside of the wheel.

I just bought a replacement for it at carlisle yesterday so the old one will be mounted underneath the truck as the spare. But I know it's going to continue getting worse. I was just curious if it can the inside of the wheel can be herculined? Can the whole thing be herculined as long as you don't mess with the area around with the hub area? Would it affect anything, including the balance?

i'd say yeah, you can do it. but if you run the wheel on your truck and it gets dirty (which im assuming it will) it'll look like crap. the lower half of my doors are bedlined and i cant get them clean for nothin. just gotta paint over it haha.

Try using POR15, topcoated with your choice of spray paint, instead. It will stop the rust, and it's more likely you'll be able to get it to balance properly, then with Herculiner.

I am pretty sure, however, that it is entirely possible to herculine one's "hootus".

clean wheel, sand with 350, wipe with acetone, tack rag and spray... it comes out really nice!!! I am doign the wheels on the wifes FJ this week and then the wheels on my BII... all with this stuff I am impressed!!! not as thick as herc, very touch and a nice finish

I might try something like that. Sand and clean the inside and paint them with that duplicolor coating.

Does that come in any other colors?
