Can someone direct me on a right up on the soa conversion. I need to do it on my truck s I can finish my lift but I can't find an actual right up on it anywhere on the board. I find discusions but no right up. I know I am not looking hard enough but I am very interested cause I want to do t right the first time. Thanks in advance.:D :salute:

I did some searching around and I don't think we have a comprehensive SOA how to thread... If you end up doing it, I'll give you three months of Elite Explorer privledges for doing a write up with photos.

theres 2 ways of doing it, both are stupid easy.

One: You can go buy the superlift SOA kit, not the best way to do it, costs more money, and it can fail but it requires no welding, just a little cutting with an angle grinder.

Two: Get yourself spring perches for you 8.8 axle tube. Remove axle from vehicle and weld spring perches on exactly opposite of the old ones. re install axle with springs ontop of new perches, I dont think longer U bolts are required, just flip them.

I will have to just do the swap and document it then so that way there is something for everyone else to follow. I just have to get a welder and do it then. I just don't want to spend a couple g's for the welder. Maybe I can find a cheap one. I know I can do it pretty easy because I modify things all the time. :D thanks for looking you guys.:salute:

dont just set the new perches at the same angle...get the weight of the truck on the axle and set the pinion angle....

Well I am gonna mesure the angle before I take it apart and then I am gonna mesure the angle while I am puting things together to make sure I get it right. I do long trips from so. cal to nor. cal a lot and don't feel like having a falure on the road. I just have to wait till after I do my next trip up there in the next week or two. what do most of you guys do for a shock mount on your trucks after you do the soa? I was thinking about turning over the piece with the shock mount and bolting it on upside down on the top of the sprins so that I can still use the same ubolts and I can have the same size shocks on it. I have aal and was wondering if I should take them out before I do the soa? I was thinking about leaving them in and just ad a f150 spacer up front to level out the truck. I right now have a 8" or so lift in front and a 4" in rear.
Just wondering what I should do because I kinda like the idea of a 10" lift.

I was also wondering what I should do about the sway bar? I do drive on the road a lot and I was thinking I will still need it. Can I get longer rods to reach the sway bar so I can still use it? I am going to try and do this conversion in one day so I can drive it still. This truck is my DD and need to be able to have it right after I do the conversion. :D

I might reccomend getting new u bolts, they are usually pretty rusty. Just a thought, since you say u'll be driving it a lot. Got any picts by the way?

The ubolts are actually in pretty good condition. My truck is a '91 with only 73.8k on the odomiter. I have undone the ubltolts less than a month ago and they came undone very easy.

That takes care of the Rear but what do you do for the front with teh Coils?

I'm gonna add some f150 spring seats on my truck cause I already have almost 8" of lift in the front. I will have around 10" all the way around :D

I did get the new spring perches for my rear leafs. They cost me like $23 for the two. I found a place that will get me a break line for the rear for only $65 for a steel braided one. I priced some shocks and everyone is telling me I should use FOX 2.0
shocks for my truck. I had one shop suggest for me to do double shocks on it sence I will have so much lift.

Does anyone think I am gonna have to use double shocks on my truck with
ten inches of lift??? I just want it to be stable while I am driving down the road.

I found some 33" tires that I can get for $116 a piece. I think its a good deal and they are the same kinda tire that I have on my truck now and I am really liking them. They are really good on th rocks from what I have whitnessed on my truck. They are also pretty hard compound so they have like a 440 tread wear. That will help them last. They are a 50k tire so if it wares out faster then I can get new ones at a cheaper price :D

where do you get your tires?

where do you get your tires?

I found them at pepboys. they are supposed to be 120 aa piece but he said he would give them to me for the price of the 31x11.50's

oh **** well i ought to look around....maybe ill find a good deal like you.

i hate to drudge up an old thread, but i'm getting ready to go SOA. And black goblin talked about flipping the shock mount and re-using the factory u-bolts. Is this as simple as it sounds? or is there more to it for the shock mounting?

I can't do it in the same way as the $32 soa, because apparently no one around here sells u-bolts.

When you flip the shock mounts, the shock holes dont exactly line up with (with the original mount's axis) soo.. although the shocks do have rubber eye bushings which would allow you to wrestle the shock so it bolts back up top into the stock position, the shock is (at that point) binding and would probably lead to premature wear after X miles .

alright... well is there any way to re use the stock bolts and still do it the same way as the $32 version. my bolts are in great shape w/ no rust and whatnot.
