Got a "New" aftermarket(welded on) catalytic converter today and noticed the truck having a little rough idle. On way home got the 420 code (bank 1 efficiency catalyst below threshold) code. How?? I have gotten a new sensor before the cat and new one after the cat and now a new cat. Go home look under car to make sure 02 is plugged in and see the big arrow on the converter and the "in" facing the muffler and the "out" facing the engine.. Can this do any damage? Im taking it back will it be ok to reuse the same catalytic converter? Thanks:)Nel

Cross-posting is a no-no.

Typically the honeycomb inside is not directional, but if it's labeled, I would insist on the shop that installed it installing it the correct way. Perhaps the metals inside the honeycomb are in different proportions from front to rear for optimum efficiency? I dunno.... Might even be worth calling the cat manufacturer....

please slap the welding monkey that installed that sucker with the arrow going the wrong way for me. okay?

I would demand it be done right, I would probably be fine with them re-using the same unit, but I'm too nice.

They didn't get it on the right way, with an arrow marking flow, something that simple.
I wouldn't let them even touch the complicated question on if it is damaged or not, they obviously don't know. That is how I would approach this matter.
Good luck
