OK, I've done some searching but haven't been able to find all the exact answers so here goes.

What I think I know:
There isn't a S/C kit for 4.0 SOHC
There is a roots-type S/C kit for the 4.0 OHV
There is a centrifugal S/C kit for the 5.0

What I don't know/need to know:

What is in a S/C kit? (blower, ducts, pullies/brackets, etc?)

Why exactly can't a centrifugal kit from another motor or one pieced together be adapted for a 4.0 SOHC?

Is it the brackets/pullies?
No under hood space?
Is it the piping from the air cleaner -> S/C -> throttle body?
Are there vacuum hoses affected/connected?
Does the 'puter need to be reprogrammed?
Isn't the boost pressure and CFM the important things?

I guess these questions apply more for the guys that have S/C's like Alec or Troll.

Thanks,
Harry

There are also kits by Vortech with centrifugals for the 91-94 and 95-97. Don't know if they're in production anymore though.

What's in a kit? Depends on the kit. Usually it's most of the parts to get the thing bolted on there and the motor running. This includes brackets, piping, hardware, pullies, belts, hoses, etc. Many times a kit will NOT include the actual s/c or other large vital components. Mine basically included everything, including a new computer, except for minor wiring doo-dads and minor misc hardware.

IMO a centrifugal s/c can be adapted to the SOHC. Dunno if it's been done. Plumbing should be easy to figure out from how it works on the OHV kits. The only thing that would be tough is how/where to mount the s/c and how to hook it up to the belt system. You definately have to think about the type of blower you're putting on there (how it's driven, and it's output); if the computer needs to be modified; and if the motor will be able to run "normally" without any adverse affects. Once someone smart figures out how to mount the thing, I'd think it would be easier to fab the mounting stuff for a centrifugal then to machine the intake plenum for a roots-eaton. That has already been done, custom roots-eaton setup on the SOHC.

Um, that what you needed?

Thanks Alec. Do you remember who has the custom roots-eaton setup on the board?

It was at rangerpowersports.com . Brian Mclevy or something like that. Go to the 4.0 section and search through that. Sure you'll find something. I haven't visited that site in some time though, dunno how it's running.

they still make the vortech kits.

I tried mounting up a Paxton kit from a 4.0LOHV Explorer/Ranger into my '99 SOHC. To get it to fit, I would have had to remove the ABS box, and relocate the battery. The battery was no problem. But I would not go w/o ABS on my truck. This was for it to mount in the same position as the OHV. Ended up scrapping the idea, and sold the kit.
