I think what rock ranger was getting at was most tranny "freshenup's" are just that, they hide the problems for a few more k miles then they die and you wasted that money on the frenshen so he was suggesting you just go straight for the upgrade. But Im pretty sure in your case the only auto that would really be an upgrade would be a 700r4, because c5's dont have the right bellhousing.

Ok rebuild thats what i meant to say, I'm going to have it all torn apart anyway. and whats 3-4 more grrr.

for 3-4k more you could do the 700r4 swap. :D :D

Bkennedy and jefe have both done this swap. There are probably 20 other people on this site that have done the swap as well.

We're really starting to hate you...j/k:p:

What spring rates did you get?

Hey Matt what are the pros and cons of this.

Pros:
Lower first gear.
Lots of afterarket parts available.
Cheaper to rebuild then the stock tranny
Stronger then the stock tranny

Cons:
Not bolt in
Its a chevy part

Basically the 700r4 will kick the crap out of the A4ld/4r55/5r55 Everyday of the week and twice on sunday. You can swap a 700r4 in for about the same cost as a rebuilt stock tranny.

I have the 700r4 core that you need for this swap. I'll trade it to you for 2 cases of Dublin Dr Pepper :D

I think Jefe also said that it doesn't downshift into 1st gear if you downshift into 1 it will stay in 2nd unlike the stock tranny. Maybe he'll correct me, but I think he said that. :dunno:

Ok I'm just going to have the motor & trans rebuilt. As for the 700r4 looks to much of a PITA.

Dublin Dr Pepper?

Explorers 91-01 come stock with the leaf springs under the axle unlike the Ranger.

Yeah i like that to but i need to know if the flex is going to be the same.
But since im going to cage it, i might put a rubber boot around the shock the secure it ti the body. So i can mount the shocks to the cage. The guy who did this cage is doing mine just a lot cleaner.

The farther out the shock is the more contol the shock has. This is why the new f 150s have the shocks outboard of the frame. Eather will work. Check out how CG did his rear shocks it is pretty slick on how he did it.

So are you gonna cage it when you build it to???
