I just bought mine a few days ago. $15 at the zone near me. Hope to put them in tomorrow.

Well boys i just finished installing the $15 shackels from autzone. Suprisingly very easy! I also did a torsion twist while I was at it. My Explorer has never looked better. Thanks for all the help yall have given me with your informational posts!!

This is for everyone that doesn't know how to put on shackels.....
1-put car on level ground
2-jack up back end by frame and put blocks or wood undernieth (for saftey)
3-Loosen BOTTOM bolts first (the ones connected to the leaf.
4-Take off top bolts
5-bolt in new shackel at the top
6-pull the leaf sping down until at the bottom hole
7-put the bottom bolt in
8-tighten bolts
9-do other side the same way
10-take out jacks and blocks
11-go get the b*tch muddy

now anyone can figure out how to do the shackel lift

I have a question on these AUTOZONE shackles, it says that you should get shock extenders in order to preserve the original shock absorber travel. I am using Bilsteins is this necessary????

It wouldn't hurt. You can also do like I did and remove three of the leaf spacers if you plan on keeping the mono-leaf. Not only will this put your shocks back to their correct location, it will also gain you some ground clearance under your shock pads.

I was looking at the picture of your truck Robert, and noticed that your shock is upside down. Am I going crazy, or is that the way its supposed to be. If so, my RS9000's are going to suck to change when I put them on. I might have to get the dreaded switches. :p

All of the Edelbrock IAS shocks mount this way. Just about all other shocks (rancho, stock, bilstein) mount the other way.

Edelbrock just has to be different

Yomie is right. The shocks have to be mounted like that for Edelbrock's patented inertia valve system to function properly.

Wierd. I never knew that. But, you learn something each day, even if no one else cares about it. :D

Here is a picture of before and after (sort of) when I installed my Warrior U-bolt skid plates and remove three of the spring spacers on each side. I gained 2" of clearance under the shock mounts this way and it still rides and handles great. I had to replace the bolt that held the spring and spring spacers together on each side, but I found them at a local muffler shop. Then all that was left was cutting the U-bolts and it was done.

just picked up my shackles the other day, cant wait to put em on, just gotta get $50 for an alignment after i do a torsion lift.

Will any shop do the alignment for this? Do you have to have the specs for them or can they do it, even w/the lift?

Any allignment shop worth a darn can do an allignment, lifted or not.

Hey Tarron, why didn't you put a 4-door leaf pack under there while you were at it?

Robb

how much would something like that run, just a ball park figure :)

Todd,
I haven't read all this thread, so I am unsure of exactly what is being discussed. I am assuming you are talking about an alignment after lifting the front in some fashion. A front end alignment is anywhere from $45-$70, depending on the shop.

ok, thanx, i think i'm going to do the lift sooner than planed

I like the way it rides and handles with the stock springs and wanted the extra inch of clearance by not installing the 4-door leaf pack. I may have to change them next spring or summer though if they continue to sag.
