I need to invest in a manual, are they both equivalent
or is one better than the other..

Thanks

Haynes. More accurate, better pix and electrical diagrams that Chilton's doesn't include

I second that. I have both and use the Haynes way more then the Chilton's.

Thanks Guys !!

Looks like the Haynes is the winner..

Consider buying a Ford repair manual on CD off ebay!

Definately Haynes. Oh, you can buy that off my website at the bookstore.:D Hint, Hint. lol

You can get the Chilton manual for 91-99 Explorer for free on the web at www.autozone.com

Look for the vehicle specific repair guide link on the upper right side of the home page. Then click on Ford Ranger/Explorer/Mountaineer 1991-1999.

I have both Haynes and Chilton and use both. I also have the Ford CD and it is the most useful of all.

Haynes is the green one right? I lost my old one that was Green (I think it was Haynes) now I have a Chiltons. Personally I think that they are both terribly lacking in information for more advanced folks, if you can, get a Ford Service manual or whatever it is called.

My Haynes manual is green, but I think that they may have changed the later ones to a different color now.

The Haynes is okay, but is lacking in some info (or in some cases has wrong info). The Chilton has more info, but it also covers the Ranger so you have to determine which procedure applies to your truck and sift thru a lot of extra info.

Neither one of them has decent info on the electrical schematics, this is why the Ford CD is more valueable. The CD also has a lot of info on DTC's and troubleshooting that is missing from the other manuals.

I bought both the haynes and chiltons manuals, as well as the OEM ford CD. the CD has the most info, pictures for every step, and you can select the exact vehicle or engine. But its nice to have a hard copy, and I liked the Chiltons better. The problem with the Haynes and Chilton is they cover too much - the Chilton does the ranger also, and the 2.9, 3.0, 4.0 4.0sohc, and 5.0 engines. you're buying a lot of extra info. But Chiltons has better instructions and diagrams than haynes... in my opinion.

I picked up the Haynes manual, I'm sure it's better than
what I had before. I also think this Ford service CD is a worthy investment..
