Open Campfire Restrictions Ordered
August 3, 2006
Worsening fire conditions have prompted the Snoqualmie Ranger District of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest to adopt campfire restrictions. The order went into effect Tuesday, August 1, 2006.
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, briquette fire, or stove fire, except a portable stove or lantern using gas or pressurized liquid fuel outside of a developed campground is prohibited. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
Escaped campfires historically have been the leading human cause of wildfires on the forest. In the past week, there have been seven fires within or immediately adjacent to the Snoqualmie Ranger District boundary, four of the seven were escaped campfires in undeveloped sites.
Already restricted are Olympic National Park, Olympic National Forest, and many Washington State lands managed by the Department of Natural Resources. In eastern Washington campfire restrictions have been in place for several weeks on portions of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
Developed recreation sites:
Gold Creek Pond Picnic Area
Lonesome Lake
Asahel Curtis Picnic Area
Corral Pass
Denny Creek
Tinkham
The Dalles
Silver Springs
Middle Fork Snoqualmie River
