Hi, guys.

So My 1998 AWD started making another weird noise. This time it's a SUPER LOUD clicking / popping noise that comes out from what sounds like the transfer case (maybe?). The strangest thing about this noise is that it is completely random. Most of the time it will click for a few seconds then go away. Some times - like this morning - it was crazy loud as all hell for the first 5 miles, then it kind of went away for the most part.

I've shifted into N at speed, but it didn't make a difference.

Turning doesn't make a difference.

Reverse has always had a little grind to it.

A while back I was getting little clicks from the transfer case after it heated up. New fluid took care of that problem. While I was in there, I stuck my finger in the hole and one of the gear thingies slid toward the front of the truck. I'm not sure what was about, but everything was fine after that.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
