Clipped Wires Under Dash? (pic)

I saw these two wires (colored solid green and solid blue) underneath my dash. From behind the brake pedal, they lead up near the dash (probably to some diagnostic information or switch) and they also go under the carpet and towards the back of the vehicle. Any ideas what these are for and why they might have been clipped and stripped?

EDIT: I take it back. Spoke too soon. After checking the12volt.com thoes colors don't match...

I can't say for sure what they go to, but just from that picture it looks like they're supposed to be attached with those butt connectors. The connectors, which are yellow, are made for 10 - 12 gauge wire. That looks like either 14 or 16 gauge. Unless you just put those connectors on before taking the picture, I'd say they're supposed to be crimped together and you may have pulled them out with your foot. Can you follow the wires back and see what they go to? Are the wires wrapped or run inside of a harness with others? If they're just run by themselves and not in a harness with other wires then I'd say they were added by a previous owner for something. They could be for anything.

those look like the door lock unlock wires for an aftermarket system, most I've seen are 1 blue 1 green

Hmm, so maybe that's why my trunk doesn't unlock... I do have an wireless unlock.

Yes, the gague of the connectors did look a little big when compared ot the wires. I don't think I've seen these wires run in with a harness, although they are zip tied to a whole bunch of other wires : . I really don't want to pull the carpetting back all the way to search for these wires though.

It's way most likely aftermarket something, the factory doesn't do stuff like that. I'd vote for the alarm thing. Pull the rear jack panel cover and see if you can find them in there.

Yep, that's what it was. I first tested for continuity to make sure the wires actually went somewhere, disconnected the battery, the reconnected the wires.

I was at first a bit skeptical of this solution. Originally, (when I first bought the truck from a dealer) the 3 things that would work were the remote start, alarm, and for some reason I had to click the unlock button, then wait a second and click it again to unlock the Explorer. The lock button served no use.

Now both buttons work all the time .

Thanks for all the help guys! I even took Kyle's little bit of advice and soldered the wires back together, then hid the wires where my feet would never hit them again.

I know what you mean, I got a used F350, and the trailer harness was not working properly, and ford wanted $365 for it.

I took it apart and all I saw was but connectors and corrosion, rebuilt it by resoldering it, and heat wraps, and no problems yet.

My door locks did not work on my drivers side when I bought my truck either. The previous owner had installed an after market alarm system and quickly removed it before trading it in I guess. I had to reconnect stuff like that too.
