Well That's a bummer... is there a bypass or a spot to park for the last obstacle (ie is the trail loop-like). Nice Photo Gerald, that looks like fun.... so since you're following the thread can we count you in as a late-show probable:?? J/K Well if nothing else I can man camp, but I'm sure to some degree that Matt can attest that I wouldn't mind doing some technical stuff. We'll see, I'll keep researchin'.

There is no bypass for Frrench Creek, and the traffic backs up there, because people are trying to come up and go down at the same time, its a real mess. I hate to discourage someone from doingthing out of their vehicles capabilities, but seriously, you will be everyones least favorite person if you decide to go. Even getting dragged up isn't a good option.. the point I got to I had ot use my winch, no one would've been able to tow me out without a great deal of difficulty. I know people like to try the hardest stuff, trust me I've been there, but I'd ask you to please... don't try. Unless you want hundreds of Jeepers yelling at you toget your ass off the trail when you get stuck and potentially do a great deal of damage to your vehicle.

Dude no problem I can recognize good advice when it's sent my way, so I'll look into some of the other trails close by in case others don't want to try the French creek (or Holy cross for that matter... ) unless some people going and running it have room for some passengers.

I was with Matt the time he tried French Creek and I didn't even try. I knew I would have trouble and there were a lot of people behind us. Now this year we hope to make French Creek, but it will be in a Sami that is 1-1/2" taller then our Explorer on 35" tires. PWSX4 is so proud that his Sami is taller then the Explorer. LOL
Here is a friend going over French Creek last year. This is the easy side and if I remember both these Jeeps are running 35" tires.
Here is another picture of what it looks like. This trip there wasn't much water running but when there is water it's even worse.

I just found a picture I took that day, you can see Matt's Explorer parked off to the right side there in the weeds/trees. He had to wait for everyone else to come up before we could head back down.

There are alot of trails in the same area that dont require alot of mods and you shouldnt get body damage on. You may get some trail pinstriping however. I am considering coming depending on the turnout and if I do, I could lead some of the trails for the stock to modified Explorers since I have done most all of them before.

Perry nice photos... hope maybe you can make it. For the time being I will stay with 'moderate' trails and hopefully no incurred body damage... I totally don't mind scrapes, bangs, and 'trail pinstriping' just not enough clearance for me to be more balsy.
Rino, aka Ryan... dude I wouldn't mind seeing you try French... your Ex looks up to it!!!
Brian that's nice of you to semi-offer to lead a modified / semi-stocker run... I hope you can make it regardless of the turn-out.

After reading 14 pages of posts, I've been able to learn that currently the weekend is the 22-24th of July, and the trail will be either Holy Cross or something else. I've got all sorts of faith in my new sliders & 8000 pound winch, but I have no interest in any more body damage - I like my sheet metal & glass right where Ford put it 14 years ago. What are the other options the group is interested in?

Like Matt said, obstacles typically get worse over the years, so who knows what French Creek looks like now. But here's a photo of it when I was there about three years ago, a year or two after Matt and Perry were there. I'm sorry that there's nothing to judge size with, but from the water line to the top of that big boulder is somewhere around six feet, I'd guess.

Hey Matt! I've been lying low for a while, have only done a few runs since that Colors run. Was sad to see Vegas go! Nice paint on the F150 BTW. Hope to see it in Glenwood this July?!mattadams said:Holy cow is that the same Mickey that joined us for the Colorado Colors Run years ago?

Didn't even try; I wouldn't have had a chance, and probably would have gotten major body damage trying. If you look closely, you'll note that the obstacle is actually two huge boulders side-by-side with an open area in the middle. Going up with wet tires, there is an excellent chance that you'll slide one side of your tires into the gap in the middle and bash the entire side of your vehicle into the boulder. In any event I didn't have the breakover clearance even if I could have climbed it; once over the boulders the top immediately levels off and you have to have a lot of suspension lift to keep from highcentering under your doors. It's an extremely impressive obstacle to see in person and a monster when you consider that it has to be done with wet tires.

I recently moved to Clifton, CO (next to GJ for those that have never heard of it) from Idaho. Having said that, what is the (in)famous 21 road? is it north or south of town? From the way it has been described on this thread sounds bad, and probably too much for my stock X and my inexperiance, but it sounds like a lot of fun.
As for the trip everyone is planning, I will be in school for the summer, but if i can make I will, but I can't garuntee that at this time.
