Ok I've been thinking about switching out my 50 series for something louder. I can't legally pass inspection without my catalytic converters so the next best thing to do is just get a louder muffler. Now What I'd like to know is can i just have the shop just swap the muffler directly while keeping the piping I already have? Also its not gonna require me to re-tune my truck will it?? I want something like the SUper 40 Delta Flow or the Super 44 series.

everyones got a 40 series, so i say try a 44, i always wanted to just to be different, plus i hear they are a little louder.

I'm seriously considering it. Would that muffler on the link I provided fit?? I says its a single in and double out?? Or am I reading it wrong but I know the piping diameter is correct.

Ooh Dang! Well I guess I can scratch that idea.

lol yeah but I like that mellow sound of Flowmaster. It just fits me, plus im trying to just swap mufflers without redoing the piping and my tip says flowmaster right on it. But thank you for bringing it up. BTW, I do plan on heading down your way sometime whenver your not too busy lol!

I consider Flowmaster anything but mellow. The 40 series I believe are the original Flowmaster mufflers.

I had them on a '75 NOVA and they were loud as hell.

Jon at one time had Flowmasters on his. I rode in it when he had them. I can tell you from personal experience the drone was horrible at best.

flowmasters are weird, ive put them on a mustang and they sound mean! put them on a chevelle they sound like a drag car, my first car was a 2001 ford taurus 24v duratec v6, and i put a 40 series on it and it sounded like g35!!! very mellow and deep, its strange.

pssst
magnaflow.

I completely agree. I removed the two rear cats so it'll still pass emissions and won't set off any CELs and replaced them with an x-pipe. I then installed a dual in, dual out polished Magnaflow. I think it sounds great, nice and clean unlike a flowmasters tone

Another vote 4 Magnaflow

I have the 4x9 single in and out w/ a Y-pipe and I love it, Even w/ the SOHC it sounds pretty good. Don't know which engine you've got, but if it's the SOHC they make a 5x11 that fits right up there, dual in single out, reversible. Or dual in & out. Straight through flow, no baffles. But it's your choice, I've heard that the Cherry Bomb Pro is supposed to have a really nice sound on the Explorers.

I can tell ya this. On your v8 the magnaflow will sound awesome.

You come down here for a listen to my son's truck, then we'll go to Tom's muffler and they'll install the same setup for about 150 bux. with a new 2.5" tailpipe. Yes you can keep the tip-

The X-pipe is a little overkill because the inside of a Magnaflow dual in-out muffler is an X-pipe. I have a dual in-out Magnaflow on my V8 Explorer and it sounds good. I think I still prefer the dual in-out Flowmaster 40 on my other truck even if just a little bit.

If I redo my exhaust I want to try something different. Either Magnaflow Magnapack mufflers like on my Mustang(which are basically only resonators) or Bassani mufflers.

what nobody likes the mac? lol

I'll tell you what. I been wanting to come down there anyways, I'll come listen to it. BUT I'd really like to stay flowmaster. If I did switch I would switch the piping as well and would get a new chrome tip. The thing is when I went to our local muffler shop the other day they didn't have a 40 series for my setup. They even called flowmasters and told them they didn't have a muffler for me. I'm like WTF?!?! Ok.. Weird. But Jon, my days off are Monday , Tuesdays so we'd have to work around that.

That would be fine. When you are ready let me know. PM me for their phone number to make the appointment.

if you put a flowmaster on you should prob change the tail pipe to get rid of the resinator

I already have a flowmaster on my truck now. In fact its the 5.0 kits that comes on their site or Summit Racing!

Ok so at first I wasn't considering Duals but I found this muffler.

It looks like it should fit my configuration. I will pring this and take it to my muffler shop to ask them as well. My question is my truck is already tuned. Since I would change the exhaust , is it necessary to have it re-tuned again because I'm changing a dynamic of my performance mods or will it still run ok?? That's my biggest question.
