Thanks for the info, you think a dremel with a cutting wheel attachment would work?

that should work.

I cut through a 3/4" bolt with one of those, to shorten it down.

What shaft is the conversion u joint for? And if it's for the front, which side of the shaft?

front shaft pinion u-joint

I might have missed this, but does anyone know if a 98 F150- with 4.6, 5spd and 4406 Manual, would that front driveshaft work without Modification? Thanks
Also the seller said the 98 does have VSS port on it also.

Auto and 5spd, may have different lengths??

I tried to cross reference this question by using www.car-part.com.
I entered 1998, Ford F-150,front driveshaft.
It does not ask you to specify whether or not the truck is a manual or automatic.
I would assume, given this information, that the driveshafts would be the same length.

project started

I went to the local salvage yard. I picked up a manual 4406 with an expedition rear ds for 250$. I just need to get the linkage now. I think Im going to have a front ds made.

What kind of sealant did you guys use between the t-case and trans?

as for what everybody else used I don't know, but there is a (basically) cardboard/paperboard "gasket" that goes there.

although some good rtv should work also.

Ok thank you,

Im very excited about this install!!

FYI its 150$ for just these two parts....

Lower lever (part that bolts to the transmission) F65Z7210BC
Upper lever (the rod in the cab) F65Z7210AB

so.....

Im in the middle of this install .......

Im wondering where is was mentioned how to actually gert the 4406 in place. I took the bracket for the gas tank off. I have virtually no clearance. I cannot get it inline with the trans to bolt in because the exhaust is in the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally got it in with a floor jack and a couple tons of pressure !! Finishing touches today!

Front Driveshaft

I completed my swap however the front shaft is to long. It came out of a 98 4.6 f150 auto. Is the an alternative that is a tad shorter ?

As soon as I figure out what front DS im running ill let you know...... I have to go back to the junk yard they gave me the wrong rear shaft long story. Im going to try and retro fit my superlift front DS with the right yoke.

Best combo

I got a front cv drive shaft from a 1995 Jeep cherokee with a 4.0l. I used this flange http://www.northerndrivetrain.com/product/SPI-211229X.html they are great to deal with. Tell them Jim sent you. lol With that combo the front drive shaft works perfect as noted before it uses the same u-joints.

THANK YOU guys for all the info

This is about what I paid to do this swap... well after I exchanged parts got the right ones :

T-Case.... 175$
Linkage and handle... 150$
Rear drive shaft... 33$
Front drive shaft 30$
Flange from Northern 60$
Misc hurst shift handle ect 60

508 ish not bad....

Just thought I'd throw up some info incase anyone needs it.
The front 5.4 shaft will work mine is from an 04 F150 and is the correct length.
The shift linkage that seems to be really hard to track down, doesn't have to be, the linkage and shifter from a the BW1356 case will work as well with the only necessary modification that needs to be performed is to drill a new hole in the linkage shortening it up. Mine came from a 96F150.

Is there a recommended fluid for the 4406, or just plain ATF?
