CoryL '91 4 Door Getting some Goodies!!! Complete off-road performance modifications.

Here is one of the few things that I didn't do myself. My buddy, Mike Foley, made it for me. These are the front suspension parts.

Once the coilovers show up I will be good to go!

those look beefy! what are they for exactly... hehe:D

Looks like a couple of radius arms that are twister arms with hiems on the ends. Along with another link for the track bar?

Basically a radius arm setup. The upper link can be taken off of one side and it becomes a wristed arm.

On the passengerside bracket that welds to the axle tube there will be an additional mount for the trac-bar. The hole you see is for the coilover. The driver's side is identical except it has no trac-bar mount.

Things are coming along nicely! :bounce:

Rip those grade 5 bolt's out of there.

Why wouldn't you want to use grade 5 bolts??
This has been a good argument between me and the local 4x4 shop. I have always been a fan for grade 8 bolts, which you know are stronger, but he says he would rather use a grade 5 because it will bend or stretch but you will still get home, were the grade 8 is stronger but it will just break and you are stuck.

Just my .02 cents on that...........

Perry I agree with you.

But:
1. The likelyhood of a grade 8 breaking is a lot less than a grade 5 bending.
2. Grade 5 seem to strip easy and are prone to damaging the threads. Or at least all of the ones that I have used have.
I do agree with your point but in my opinion I would much rather have the extra strength and security of a grade 8 than a grade 5.

Got the grille on and the new "headlights" installed!!!

The KCs are run though the stock headlight knob, so I can turn them on as I would normal headlights.

I also got the battery tray made and mounted. Optima Red Top. It looks like it is exposed. While it is a little, it's not much to worry about. It's covered more than you think.

Started wiriing up the electric fans, but I ran out of time and stopped for the night. Also got the winch controller mounted and ready to hook up.

Lastly got the engine cross-member trimmed up. Once the front suspension is in I can see where I need to cut more and reinforce more.

Slowly getting there!

Don't you hate it, the last 10% takes just as long as the first 90%! Looks good. Does Foley have a plasma cutter? The cuts are really clean.

Yeah, especially when Sway-a-Way doesn't deliver your coilovers on time. Three weeks turned into three months. I have written a letter to their President. Hopefully something is done within their company so this **** doesn't happen to other people.

Foley used a band saw to cut those brackets!

I think I'll look at King coilovers when the time comes, seeing how much trouble you've had. Man Foley has alot of patience to do it with a bandsaw.

I've heard King is worse than SAW when it comes to customer service.

I'd look hard at the Bilstein RCS coilovers if you are planning a non-desert type rig.

Non desert, whats that? Desert is all I have :D . You mean high speed? I'm somewhere in the middle of the off-road group. Not a rock crawler (not enough patience) and not a high speed freak (not enough cash). According to a friend of mine who builds and races rangers Bilsteins are ok but they need to be rebuilt to often for his liking. RS 5000's work for me. Easier on the pocket too!

Called SAW today (the 12th) and they "said" they would ship Monday. I'll believe them when I see them.

Irregardless, the president of that company is getting a nice two-page letter from me. :D

So until then I can't touch the front suspension brackets I have sitting here. Axle is prepped too!

I get the BII gas tank on Sunday, so the truck will be runable again soon.

Need some long flexible lines for the front. Would prefer to use rubber lines as I have had some bad experiences with the braided stainless. Anyone know where to get some long rubber brake lines?

All the wiring is complete too. Battery is mounted. Got the starter.

Once the front axle is in I can order driveshafts!!!

It's getting CLOSE. REAL CLOSE!

I had my lines made at a local place that makes Hyd. lines. cost me like 65!

Well SAW said they shipped today. I will believe it when I see it.

Got the brackets for the suspension links bolted in. Taking a few more brackets off the axle and then it will be ready to go in.

Ended up ordering a new BII tank. Should arrive this week.

Then it is a matter of ordering driveshafts.

It's REAL close!

Cory...

What part of Louisville do you live in? I'd sure like to check out your project...especially here in the next few weeks as it's nearing completion.
