It was very easy, the material actually came with clips attached from the store I cut two lengths of gutter guard to fit and clipped them right on to the plastic grill then bent the other end to kind of form fit and hold itself in place. ill get a pic
In all you will need two sections of gutter guard cut to the length of half the grill, meeting in the middle. All you need to cut the stuff is wire snips. you can see a clip at the top of the grill and another at the far end, these come attached to the gutter guard.......... the bottom of the grill looks the same with a clip holding each piece. the grill guard wont cover the whole length so I cut it and each piece meets in the center of the grill (verticle line, where the ford emblem is) then in the center just fold it over the rectangle grill holes and the rad support helps hold everything in place. make any sense? I know its pretty tech. lol
big ballin ghetto bling for the trail beyotch
little update, I yanked the sliders off, they hung a little low for my liking, then I cut the rocker panels out through the fender and bed Im going to redo the sliders and tie into exocage. Gained alot of clearance.
This is right after making the cuts I had to pull the front fender back in so it didnt hang down/out like that.
also finally fit my blockoff plates on the Doubler and sourced some linkage parts and shifter boots that I will need. I have to clock the shift levers and simce Im a picky ******* Im going to source some 6 gear planetaries and shift fork from a 1354 for my crawl box at the boneyard when the snow and mud dries up.
also added some nice waterproof kevlar seats I had from another project
did a little maintenence on the 2.9 to keep it chugging till I can swap in a 4L
I stripped the doubler back down for final assembly, and finished the shifters on each case, the front lever has been clocked and the rear lever was removed and then cut and turned to clear the adapter plate and fit my shift linkage design. I ended up using a cut up 1350 and 1354 stock linkage welded to 3/8" rod and my old bmx bars for the shifters and bolted them to the transmission in the stock position. For the hole in the floor I made several straight cuts with my sawzall and then beat the sections of sheet metal down and around themselves so there wouldnt be a sharp edge to worry about. An '90 Aerostar speedo cable was used for the extended length needed to fit the rear case. I still need to figure out some sort of boot to seal off the cab, and make some driveshafts.
I cut down a 3" body lift to 1" with my chop saw and threw it under the cab while replacing my very worn body mounts, and then made some modifications to the floor. I cut enough out to remove the body lift completely and the doubler will still fit, I will probably leave it in till I do a few other things as I have already found the extra clearance to be very helpful.
I broke one of the damn plastic shift guides during assembly and had to go pull another case for a replacement:annoyed:
scavenging for parts at the pull and pay
cutting down the 1354 shifter
1350 and 1354 shifters, each one shifting the opposite case.lol
ready for fitment
2 Hi
Double Low
Cases
Also yanked out the jumpseats, saving 46 lbs and alot of cargo space, I never used them anyway.
Thanks, for the linkage I cut the heads off 2.5" X 3/8" fine thread bolts, inserted them inside tube and welded. I taped off the threads so they wouldnt get ruined during this step.
The joints themselves are just 3/8" balljoint tie rod ends with fine thread. One end has a male shank and one end has a female. I bought them off of Ebay, they are commonly found on lawn equipment or go-kart assemblies.
I stripped the axles, cut of old perches and shock mounts and shaved 1" off the 14 bolt, TTB is out, started cleaning the freame for the SAS and the tons are finally going underneath,
