I have a 01 mountaineer 5.0 awd I was wondering if I could still drive my truck without the passenger cv axle since my differnetial is already disconected?

No you can't.

Ok thanks do you know why if the front differntial isnt hooked up the axle shouldnt spin right?

By "differential isn't hooked up" I assume you mean that the front driveshaft is removed? Or do you mean something else?

Are you saying that none of the axle will turn? Will the one on the other side turn? Sounds like it's time to tear open that differential and find out what happened.

Yes the drive shaft is removed

You can drive it.

Some say that you need the axle to keep the hub from loosening.

The 02s use the same style hub on the 2wd without the axle.

Someone else here posted that he has driven for quite a while without the front axles.

The cv axle keeps the hub in tact more or less. Driving without a cv will cause the hub to fail and or become extremely loose.

hub will fall apart and the wheel will fall off if there is no stub shaft bolted in,
and all the fluid will leak out of the front diff causing catastrophic failure of the diff locking up the other side that is connected,,

if the front driveshaft is out than you can take out both axles and put the stub ends that go through the bearings back in, to keep the bearings together, but the Explorer will drift in park, rolling down hills by itself,,

^^^ I second this. You cannot drive without at least the stub holding the bearing in place. Non believers will believe if they saw the picture of a truck that tried this.

It happened to Johnstone,, he had a wheel go away after driving with no axle stub,, causing alot of damage,,

And, to top it off someone stole the fly away tire while he was calling for help.

No, can't do that, your wheel will fly off....
You already damaged the AWD by driving without front shaft, now you are trying to kill somebody?
You can drive it.
Stop giving advices that can kill people!

So I paid a so called mechanic to do the hub/axle job but some some reaso the truck wont steer I cannot move the steering wheel any idea why this may happen
