Replaced my floppy original passengers side CV today and had some peculiarities:
While trying to pull the rear of the CV from the intermediate shaft the CV separated at the boot as if it wasn't connected to anything. When this happened the intermediate shaft also pulled outward from its seated position still attached to the CV stub. I was able to seat the intermediate shaft back into place, get a better angle from under the vehicle and tap the CV stub just right to get it off. Installed the new one, test drove and didn't have any issues. My question is whether or not the intermediate shaft should float out like it did, or did I do some type of hidden damage to the axle? It's a 2001 4x4 with the standard Dana 35 SLA.
