Anyone interested in converting to Dana 44 TTB? Would be CAD and cut on a laser table. Could work WIY kits or already welded. Mig or Tig. Trying to get a feel before having it made. Im located in Mesa AZ but can ship.

That would be a nice upgrade from the D35. Good luck with it.

would like to see what you come up with for sure!
should work on 95-01 Explorer and 98-11 Ranger!

The Ranger guys would be all over this. What are you going to do about steering though?

We will figure out a mount for the box as well. Most likely run a SD box. After that it depends how much they want to spend. Stock extended or a swing set.

44 stuff is going under my 1st gen this weekend and then ill start on the conversion.

Have you made any progress?

You know 1st gen and 2nd gen frames are different, right? I don't think the D44 TTB will fit under the 2nd gen frames very well. I put D35 beams under mine and had to notch the frame for diff clearance, and the D44 pumpkin is further out than the D35 pumpkin. But I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Yes I do, it will definitely be more than a bolt up kit. Cutting and welding will definitely be required.

Been swamped with UTV stuff, going to finish the 1st gen conversion first and get some miles on it.

I would definitely be interested in this. I look forward to what you come up with!

Definitely sounds interesting. However, I like the width of the 35 to be honest, just wish it had the strength of the 44's. Will keep tabs on this custom work you're doing!

Adding mounting holes for 35's is easy enough. 44 outers and you have a solid set up! Its seemed to me, most guys willing to go through this much trouble, want full long travel.

My 1st gen will be done in the next week or so, have to move houses and then its time to cut up more frames.

the dana 44 is the way to go.......forget the d35 holes :) Just my opinion anyone who wants this cross member will want dana 44 beams UNLESS they already have a heavily modded d35........even then they should still consider the 44 for long travel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure the D44 is definitely the way to go. Only issue is, as far as I'm aware, they're clearly wider than D35 beams. This creates a few new variables. Forces me to use non-factory fenders (I like the factory ones), and it not only creates more width on the trails, it now adds extra width for parking and storing (and towing on trailers). I mean, my D35 is strapped at 15" travel now I believe, since factory steering. However, with x-over or whatnot, can strap it to about 18" on a stock width D35. Now, isn't that pretty good? For what they are currently, they perform pretty fantastic.

I think I'd be more interested in stock width beams, beefed up, so likely the d35 with the d44 outters.

Now, if fenders and track width are not a concern, absolutely, D44 beams all the way and grab all the extra travel you can muster. :afro:

copy that :) I was just tyrying to convince myself to ditch my custom D35 setup and go d44 full width...

I have custom cut and turned beams, increased track width, 97 ranger knuckles with dual caliper pistons, Warn hubs made for a Jeep 8.8 full floater, Yukon 4.10 gears and a ARB locker Superrunner steering with chevy 1 ton TRE, and I have barely put 25-30K miles on this setup LOL yet Im willing to ditch it in favor of the 8" wider d44.
Wider is better! (Cheater travel)

Your crossmember can easily provide holes for both d35 and d44, the d44 only requires a hole 3/4" closer in no each side, if memory serves......

One nice thing in the full width d44 over the d35, STABILITY. Might have saved me on that rollover of mine, maybe!

But yeah, you're very much vested in your current beams, but imagine for the sake of "because I can" and I like the potential of the full width travel, I could see you doing it, haha!!

with my 2 mile road and the condition it is in, some more width and long travel would be WELCOMED
