The factory sub was crackling today so I checked it out, the foam detatched from the speaker frame. I know they make kits to replace the foam, but has anyone simple tried RTV (silicone sealant) to reconnect the foam to the housing?

Also, how do you remove the speaker from the enclosure? I unscrewed all the screws but it seems like something from the back is holding it in....???

Its bolted in from the back. I would just find a cheap 8" 8ohm woofer from partsexpress or madisound before messing with the factory one.

So you have to remove the whole enclosure to remove the speaker?

Yeah, i would deff. just replace it, theyre not expensive at all, plus it would sound a ton better.

I agree- you can get replacements for like $20...

..with that said, I did repair once a set of old Advent home speakers when I was in College. The foam surround went bye-bye, and I used a roll of foam weatherstripping, and "Goop" adhesive- stuck the foam between the cone and the frame to re-foam them in a sense, and Goop'd it all together- they POUNDED! They sounded sooooo good! They were used that way for 4 years and never missed a beat! :D
