Does anyone know what this is? Ford Explorer 4x4 V6 4.0L Transmission issue

Yes it would, that's the reason for checking the transfer case fluid level. However, with out the tube pointing upward any fluid that splashes into the vent will run out.

I checked the fluid level and it is not over the plug, it is not over filled. Any ideas why it is leaking?

could be just from heat making the fluid expand,, maybe the length of the tube is there for a reason, heat expansion i guess, don't worry if it has the right level in it,,

but this still doesn't help with the trans slipping issue,,

or is it still slipping ?

Hey Corkey,

It hasn't slipped again, but here is what has happened so far. I had the EATC and back blower go out and the fuse was blown, well I replaced fuse 10 and then the car started slipping right after. I didn't think much of it and proceeded with me looking under the car to find any issues (the whole fantastic vent journey we have been on.) and well after checking the plug to see if it is overflowing, I decided to take the fuse out and drive the car, well it stopped slipping. Is it a coincidence? Could be. I do know the transmission shifts due to it being told electronically, but is that the real issue? From my experience, when a tranny is dying it is quick and fast. I have never had a car drive great, then slip then drive great again. I could be completely wrong. I am just saying, I think it is strange that I take the good fuse out and it drives great...I actually drove it for about 30min and nada.

I wonder what the issue could be, ever since I got it back from the transmission place, it has not been running well, ALSO, I don't even get the O/D light anymore, and it still slipped. I am confused. I am going to drive it again tomorrow, and see what happens. I am temped to put the fuse back in to see if it slips. If it is a short, I can at least try to find where the short is and see if I can fix or bypass it. What do you think? Thanks for all your help.

It's coming out because you don't have the upright tube.

the upright tube should not be an issue here,,,
it is just a vent,
the proper level is up to the vent hole it seems, and if it is leaking a bit that means it is self leveling , i would just leave it that way,,,
it willl not drain out enough to hurt the t-case,,

Well, the car still leaks. However...I think it may be an electrical issue. I am going to put in the fuse today and drive it, and see what happens...if it slips, I know what is causing it. If it doesn't slip, then I have to keep troubleshooting.

I decided not to put the fuse in, and it has not slipped once. I needed to drive it all day today so I left the fuse out. It drove fine. I am hesitant to put the fuse back in because I think it will do damage.

Check this for the EATC, don't know how it would effect the transmission, also don't know how old or new this information is. http://www.p71interceptor.com/eatcswap/selftest.html

Thanks for posting that, but the fuse is 10, it controls Speed (Cruise) control, EATC, the GEM, Automatic ride control, the rear blower etc etc. Even if the those have nothing to do with the issue, then it could be just a short in the wires making some issues. I will have to trouble shoot and see.

the GEM directly affects the trans sifting and converter lockup circuits,,

but if the GEM does not get power than the Ex should not even run, i would guess a wiring issue is the culprit ,,,

fluid from the transmission would more likely leak out between the transmission and the transfer case than into the transfer case because there are seals on both units. It is extermely unlikely that fluid from one could get into the other.

The GEM affects the Transmission Shifting? I am not following that. The GEM controls accessories from what I remember, the windows/wipers and other things. It controls the Transmission? How is it driving? Perfectly? Do you have some documentation that shows the GEM is controlling the Tranny? I know when I had issues with my windshield wipers and fluid spray, the issue was the GEM module (Which is located behind the radio). I find it hard to believe that the GEM controls both the windows and the tranny. However, it wouldn't surprise me, learn something everyday.

So, I am driving today, it is hot, and the car has been driving great by the way, and I have the AC on. Well, the tranny starts slipping again. So, I roll the windows down and turn of the radio and AC to see if I can hear anything, and the car starts running great again. Then, I turn on the AC again, it is 101 outside, and the car slips again. SO, again. I turn off the AC and guess what? The Tranny works great all the way home. Now, does this not sound like an electrical problem? Especially with fuse 10 blowing (which is apart of the blowing system) and not working right? However, how do I find the cause? With the AC being another part of the electrical system, am I looking for something that has been modified? When I purchased the car, it had a 6 disk CD changer install under the back seats. The dash electrical was rewired for the remote to work for the changer as well. I am just at a brain fart here. Any ideas?
