Having a ton of kids every day in and out of a vehicle seems to play more havoc on my truck then the road. How hard is it to fix the release handle on the inside of the rear drivers side door? There doesn't seem to be any movement on the lock actuator when the handle is pulled in.

each rear door has a little lever--on the door seal area-below the latch-
When the lever is activated-that door will not open from the inside-

each rear door has one-so one may still be flipped up-

it's a small lever-but you will see it

The internal latch mechanism on the inner door pull may have broke off.. If you remove the interior door panel, you can gain access to the door mechanism and inspect to see if the wire assemblies for it have come loose.

One rear side door on my 96 is difficult to open for some reason. It felt like you were going to break the inside door handle before the mechanism would release. I shot some PB Blaster on the latch mechanisms, and that helped some. Mutiple applications seemed to improve it also.

Maybe try lubing the mechanisms...

If the handles do not lay flat against the door (i.e. tips of the handles angled towards the front seatbacks) your handles are either already broken, or soon to be giving up the ghost.

Pulling the trim and replacing them is about a 20 minute job, not hard at all. Couple of screws...
