Hi, everyone!

I just want to jump and and confirm that the climate control in the 4.2 inch cluster was removed in the late-build 2013s and the 2014 Explorers.

Rebecca

Ford is now removing useful features? Can you check to make sure that this won't disappear on the earlier models when we upgrade MFT next month?

I agree, but it's really not a big thing. All you could/can do was change the auto temp control setpoint.

When I get a phone call and auto temp is set to something cooler (69-70), sometimes the fans are blowing full bore. It's nice to be able to turn down the fans w/out having to take my hands off the wheel. You also can't use voice commands while in the middle of a phone call. This was a very simple, useful feature, I can't fathom why they'd remove it.

Moving Thread

Since this something that appears to be an issue that Rebecca is responding to and has more to do with the In Vehicle Technology, I will move this thread to the IVT forum.

I Rebecca. Thanks for the confirmation. I guess what the members are really after is the reason it was removed

Also, do you know if updates to the MFT have any effect or can alter the Right and Left display screens?

Peter

Does this also mean that for all EX's which currently have it, it will be removed with the new update? Not good to be selling it to us and then removing it without advising and to the reason why.

You're welcome, Peter. The MFT updates don't change the instrument clusters. I don't know why it's being removed on newer vehicles, but once I find out I'll post again.

It won't be removed if you currently have it in your right-hand instrument cluster.

"It won't be removed if you currently have it in your right-hand instrument cluster."

Rebecca

Good to know, but will it still work? I hope you are right, but everything on the MFT is up for grabs, and hit or miss..............

Why even remove it? Was Ford recently sued for the feature or something? Or was it something else? I think it would make the right instrument LCD look way off compared to the main screen. You have 4 corners, but 3 options in the LCD? I don't know, my OCD makes me feel like something is not symmetrical.

....making room for Applink...

Recently traded 11' limited for a 14' limited and now icon for climate control in right side of instrument cluster is gone. Will miss this feature a ton, probably most used feature I loved using. How-to- go ford!!! You know the saying "if it ain't broke............
I think they have bigger fish to fry with the overall my ford touch bugs.
Come on, give it back.

I believe that was removed in the 2013 model. I have never used it myself or found a need to use it. I'm assuming most other owners also didn't and that is why it was removed. Mine is set on Auto all the time.

With QNX coming in, I wonder if this was a move to separate climate control from the infotainment system - and it should be separate if you ask me. I'm sure they were in negotiations for the past two years or so discussing how QNX would be integrated.

If so, this means the 2013 and up may be integrated with QNX, but not 2011 and 2012.

Still, none of these models have knobs or controls for AC separate from the MFT screen, so I don't know how that would work.

It may have been a move to add something like Applink, but I would think that would be abandoned on the current platform with new hardware and software using QNX.

I for one am like Peter as I almost always use auto climate, but this morning I needed front defrost/upper vents and I am glad I still have it on my 2011 4.2 inch screen.

The 2015 F150 has separate climate control knobs so I'm cautiously optimistic the 2015 Explorer will as well since that may well be my next vehicle.

My 2013 Sport still has the climate in the cluster.. Even w/ climate set to auto you want to be able to change the temp w/out taking your hands off the wheel. In my case there is an iPad mounted over the climate controls on the dash, so I use it exclusively for changing temperature.

My temp is set to 20c (68F) in Winter and 24C (75F) in Summer and those are the only times I ever change the setting. You are correct about having the Climate in the right hand screen. I was wrong in saying it was removed in the 2013 model. It was in fact removed from the 2014 model year.
Thanks for the correction notice.

Peter

It was removed in late builds of 2013 and forward, according to Rebecca.
