- 94 Eddie Bauer
I bought my '94 Eddie Bauer about six months ago. and while it had some mechanical issues that I have been fixing one by one I at least had the satisfaction of knowing the CEL never came on.... When I finally got around to replacing some burned out dash lamps I found out why. Along with a few burned out lamps there was one totally SMASHED! Guess which one... I instantly realized some DPO was tired of looking at the CEL and instead of a noticable piece of black tape, instead took a screwdriver and jammed in down on the CEL lamp. :fire:
After replacing it I found the light usually stays off for a while when cold, then turns on but the drivability seems OK. After reading the error code I found the code is EGR related (I forgot to write it down and I can't remember the number right now) so in checking the EGR valve I discovered the tube between the exhaust manifold and the EGR was flapping in the breeze!
rusted off both ends and hanging on by a bit of insulation. This may also explain a "whooshing" noise I occasionally heard from the engine at road speeds.
Is this a common problem or an oddball? I have seen the tube mentioned in other threads as a dealer item but priced at $20 or $85 depending on the thread. Any ideas on what this should cost and how difficult it is to replace?
Thanks,
Tony B
