I was told by my Dad that my 1999 Ford Explorer XLT sohc V6 had an Oil leak. I checked the oil it seemed to barely register on stick. I added a quart of oil and now seems overfull. I have read this could be dangerous. Photos attached

Give it time to settle
Wipe the stick and try again
See if you can get a good reading

1 quart overfull will only be a little above the top dot and not going to harm anything

Your oil level looks to be waaaaay above the top dot. If that is the case you need to drain some oil out
This engine holds 5 quarts

It was odd, I was told by my Dad I had an Oil leak, I checked the car which was parked on the street. I saw a large oil spill under my car. I checked my dipstick and it only registered on the bottom about quarter inch. The engine was cold at the time started my engine and added a quart of oil, it was running rough but really quited down. Could oil get stuck somewhere..

I have to ask, did you check while the engine was running? Or off?
Where abouts was the "large spill underneath the engine? Are you sure the spill was oil?
How large is large? Picture?
