Hello friends,

I have an issue on my Explorer; sadly, when it rains and I'm driving the truck and I press the breaks to wait, it suddenly turns off out of the blue.

First it shackles like saying, "I want to go more, more gas," and it costs me to control it with the breaks, and when I win, it turns off. Luckly, I tried to turn it on, and it does.

But i'm certanly worried about this issue, the truck is screaming at me saying "Fix me". And I want to, but I don't know where to start. ¿Does anyone have had this issue before? I really will appreciate the help.

Thank you all!

First thing to try,
Clean the intake air control valve. ( IAC) The internal plunger may be sticking. Carburetor cleaner will dissolve the debris. Use a small tool to actuate plunger , until it feels less sticky.

Also, the mat sensor has an internal barometric sensor. You might get some maf sensor cleaner, and clean the maf sensor internals. That is a special cleaner. Do not use carb cleaner on maf!

thank you, i'll try that.

For the info, i just clean the upper intake, did service to the injectors, and cleaned everything before putting it back together... all sensor i could get to too.

one thig is, the EGR tube got an crack, but i dont think it would influde so much.. i'm thinking it's electrical...

Is the check engine light on?

A crack in the egr tube can for sure cause some strange idle issues

I bet you have some
Computer codes to solve

Hello friend!

I just use the scanner in the truck, and no code in PCM. I'm trying to find another EGR tube, no luck. I'm thinking of making one brand new. Perhaps there is the measures, but well its another story.

The thing is, there are idle issues, but what worries me is that problem when it rains... my truck turns off when I drive over water and later applies breaks... it sure is an electrical problem...

Where do i start looking?

thanks man!

Crank sensor

The crank sensor is on the front of the engine e down low, it can easily get splashed with water and cause you to lose ignition / spark

Does the air filter get wet? That is another thing to check if water is getting into the intake

Egr line

I have an open ended wrench I cut in half I use this to loosen and tighten the egr line in the truck. 1-1/4” I believe it is

1-1/16. I bought a Craftsman wrench from Ace Hardware so I didn't have to buy a whole set of the large wrenches. OP mentioned being unable to find an EGR tube, Rockauto has plenty of them. If you remove the air intake tube from the throttle body and take the top off the air cleaner you can generally get enough room to work. The connection at the EGR valve can usually be reached by positioning an open-end wrench under the throttle body elbow. I'd spray both EGR tube connections really well with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight before trying disassembly. After removing the EGR tube it might be a good idea to clean the areas you sprayed with penetrating oil with brake cleaner and wiping down any residue. I'm less concerned with a fire hazard than I am annoyed by the smoke you might get on startup.

thanks 1-1/16!
I cut wrench in half not only so it fits in there easier but also because I can stick a cheater bar over the end and get some serious leverage on that EGR fitting
If the egr line wont budge from the egr valve you can do that work in a vise or replace the EGR valve and gasket
