Wife was driving our 91 Eddie and it just quit running and left her stranded. It will turn over but that is it. I am going to go trailer it home tonight but thought I would ask for some ideas on what to look at first....thanks in advance.......

Just stopping is either lack of fuel, electricity, or air. I would check to make sure your battery is charged & alternater recharges the system. If you can jump start it, then it's either battery or alternater. If that does not do it, check for a clogged fuel filther. Air system is easy, take out the filther & dust it off (or just leave it out TEMPORARLY)

Also on a far chance I wonder if the Cat is clogged. Usually it will get cherry red & then the car dies. When cooled it will run again. So if it starts without the jump, you may want to look there.

Good luck

When you turn the key to the ON position, you should hear the fuel pump prime for a second or 2. If you don't hear that, then it's a fuel delivery problem. If you do hear it prime, then check for spark at one of the plugs.

If she driving @ speed, and it just quit, my vote would be for the fuel pump. Especially since it's a 1st gen....that pump is 15 years old!

Along the lines of the guys above. Listen for the Fuel pumps to prime whne th eKey is in the ON position. If you don't hear that I would try the Fuel pump relay first. Under the Fuse block on Passenger fender.

This was the exact reason A guy sold his 'X' to me. It would not start some mornings then it would. It would just quit on the road, then it would start right up.

Other possiblilty is the Crank Sensor pooped out. Not a common problem on these cars.

I have had some run ins with problems like this and found that the timing belt or chain may be broke. If it doesnt turn out to be fuel or elec. related try the timing set-up.

finally opened the hood, it is getting no spark. Pulled the distributor pack out and it tested good. Fuel pump is coming on when I turn the key. What to check next? thanks

No spark but the distrib. pack tested good. How? Had the same thing happen in my 89 mustang turned out to be the coil wire. Burned in two internaly or broke but that wire was bad allowing no power to be distributed.
