should look better when it's painted. but definitely interesting.

well i think im going to half the hatch gate and use the frame of that and fill in the gaps where it covered before

I'd like to see more of what you did to achieve a gate hinge please.

On our 93 the lower half of hatch is now a "lift off lol" gate and I would like to hinge it at the bottom somehow.

He used an actual tailgate off a ranger, he didnt convert the hatch to open like that...

Im subscribing though

He did have to install some kind of hinge on the explorer for the tailgate to operate. That is what I want to see.

The fact he used a ranger tailgate is rather obvious.

I cant wait to see how he does the rest of the hatch

Im just guessin but could take all the hinging and mounting hardware off of the ranger and drill and bolt it onto the explorer?

this guys smart lol, i took everything off the ranger that was used to for the tail gate, everything.....

the cool part was that the cable for the gate, those torqx sockets things are in the same spot as the rangers so they swap out perfectly

also the rangers hinges were placed and welded on because the metal is too flimsy to have a bolt on app.

my next thing to do is cut and use the upper portion of the orriginal hatch as a rear removable window

turdle, i want some more pics of that white explorer with the roll cage

please

Thats exactly what I thought, but I figured he probably welded it, since it would be stronger, plus the metal down there is pretty thin

im gonna have a nice update here in about 15 min

If it helps I think I had the tailgate thing figured out, I just stopped and gave up because I don't see me using it. The 2nd gen is alot harder because of the bow and curve.

I can try to finish it, just needed to drill some holes and put it together.

im trying to load them on the comp now

Nice work! I'd love to have a tailgate but don't think I could risk chopping up my rear hatch just yet. Maybe in a few years when it's no longer my daily driver...
