For a couple of days now at work there's been a 1st gen. Sport towing a U-Haul trailer. I don't know what they did to get U-Haul to let them tow the trailer. If I see them I'm going to ask them. Maybe the place they rented it from was just clueless or something.

Well, several possibilities:

1. U-Haul has lifted the ban.

2. Local U-Haul agent is clueless.

3. Explorer owner told U-Haul agent that he's towing it with a Navajo.:D

4. Explorer owner picked up the trailer with another vehicle then transferred the trailer to the Explorer.;)

5. What you are seeing is a mirage or holographic image.

I rented a hydraulic log splitter and towed it with my Ex, no questions asked.

For those of us who are new to Explorers. What is the deal about U-Haul and Explorers?

Because of the Firestone tire mess, U-haul has made it policy to not rent trailers to be towed behind any year Explorer. They will not install a hitch either.
However they will have no problem with a Mountaineer, or a Navajo.
That's just plain dump cause it's the same as an Explorer.
This shows U-haul was more concerned with public relations & not getting sued then the real facts.

Most u-haul places follow this, but there are some that don't care.
