Well with summer coming around, and some extra cash coming in too, I want to replace my exhaust.

I'm having quite a problem deciding on what to get.

What I want is something that has a nice rumble at idle, and deep when I floor it. I don't want something that is really loud.

I've broken it down to 3 options:

Flowmaster II 3-Chamber Catback
Flowmaster 50 series muffler and use stock pipes
Flowmaster 40 series muffler and use stock pipes

From what I heard Flowmaster 40 is loud at idle, and really loud when you floor it. And I don't want that. When a car/truck is to loud it sounds bad to me.

What opinions do you have on my selections?

Thanks..

I am looking for the same input regarding flowmaster also.

Flowmaster

Go with the Flowmaster Cat-back system. I just put one
on my 92' Explorer. Everyone has complimented the
sound. Got mine at Summit Racing.

Pardon Me for me being naive, but what is a "cat-back" system? Thanks

Simply put, it is the complete exhaust system ( muffler and plumbing ) from the CATalytic converter BACK to the exit point.

Never stop asking questions.... the only dumb question is the ONE not asked....

More info

Around what price are we talking for the Flowmaster II CatBack?

Quick,

I am going to give my rig to my dad. When he gets it I am going to rip out the exhaust and put on the qriginal exhaust. If you want the muffler and the tips I will be happy to sell them to you. The muffler is a Delta Flow 40 series. I forgot the specific inlet and outle sizes put I will find out no problem. I had it since last summer. Think about it. I probably will get rid of it for about lower than half price of a new one so........

Ps Quick just reminding you that I have the dual outlet one for dual exhaust.

I had a cat back flowmaster II on my '92. Niiiiicccccee!!! Cost about 160 from summit racing www.summitracing.com . They sound really nice. A little rumble at idle, and a decent but not obnoxious growl at wot. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!

I am interested in just replacing the muffler, I would like to keep stock pipes. I want it to sound good, but not obnoxious, and I would like to hear it as less as possible in the cab? Is the delta 50 sound like a good idea.

Ok guys - here's my .02

I just installed the Flowmaster Force II system. It comes with a 50-series muffler. Great sound too. A couple of things to keep in mind. The high performance mufflers have larger pipes than stock - 2.25-2.5" where stock is 2" or less. The bigger pipes allow more air to flow giving better mileage and performance. The best way to do this is go to a muffler shop and have them install a 40 or 50 series, depending on the type of sound you want. The 40 is the loudest, followed by the delta 40 then the 50 series. Either have a tailpipe made from the muffler back (mellow tone) or have a downturn pipe added in at the back of the muffler. This will be a more aggressive sound. The muffler is going to run about $70 plus maybe another 50 for pipes and install...

hey RichSport..

This Sunday you'll have to start your truck up and rev it some for me.

I might just buy the muffler if I like the sound. We'll talk Sunday.

Quick

One Problem I probably won't be able to come on Sunday. I don't know for sure but you can probably count me out. We got to figure something out.

How much louder is the delta 50 from stock?
Will I be able to tell a difference in fuel mileage?
Will I be able to tell a difference in HP?
Can I just add the muffler and keep the rest stock?

thanks

The delta 50 is not much louder than stock from inside. You can tell a difference from the outside. You will gain about 15-20hp and close to the same torque if y ou replace everything from the convertor back. This is because f the larger diameter pipes. The cost to have a new tailpipe built to go in the stock location shouldn't be more than 30-40 dollars. The extra money is worth it, but yes - you can replace just the muffler.

Flow Master will sound much better when you remove the resonator with 2.5" exhaust. I love to listen to it under the bridge.
