Fog lamp bulbs

Hello, I just bought a 98 X EB series, and I want to change the fog light bulbs on it, can it be changed or do you have to change the whole lamp. let me know. And also what kind of bulbs does it use.

My other question is, are the headlights 9004 as the old generations X's?

Thanks :)

Yes, you can change just the fog lamp bulbs. They should be 899's. 885 and 893's will work.

No, the 2nd gen Explorers use 9007 bulbs.

2nd gen uses 9007 and you can go to your local Wal-Mart or Pepboys and get Sylvania Superstars 9007ST and upgrade your headlights significantly. Remove from the back of the headlight housing and DO NOT TOUCH THE NEW BULBS WITH YOUR FINGERS! Use tissue as the oil on your finger will cause the bulb to blister and explode where you touched it.

On the fog lights, the owners manual says the replacement is an H3, that is incorrect. 893 and 899 are the direct replacments but you can upgrade those as well. An 885 bulb works just fine. It is a 50 watt bulb versus the 27 watt of the 893/899 variety. I have run them for over a year with no ill effects to either the wiring or the housing.
