My X goes through about a pair of foglights every week... it has blown them straight out of the mount before and always shatters the bulb... anyone had any experience with this or any ideas... i dont even know where to begin

Same thing happens with my drivers side fog. I think its a water leak. Im replacing them with PIAA 1500s this week. They suck anyway.

excellent idea... anyone know any direct replacement housing... i can't afford PIAA's being the poor college student I am... maybe something under $50 for the pair

Two Mag Lights??? j/k. For under $50 you really have limited choices. I have a set of KC fogs in mine (see my icon) and they ran about $65. I have had no problems with them at all.

does it blow up, or burn out? Each could mean something different. Anyways, I think Pilot makes some for a decent price that might fit in that spot, might check your local Pep Boys or some place that carries fog lights.

the exploded... bulb shatters and everything... sometimes they blow right out of the housing... and i know that i put them in correctly... mind boggling... but then it again it is an Xploder heh

Yup, its probably a leak in the housing. If the bulbs are hot and water gets close to them, they explode. The Explorer fogs are notorious for that. There are some lights out there that fit in the factory locations, or you can mount them anywhere you want. Just the factory fogs suck. Come to think of it, lights mounted in the factory location usually have problems, also. The corner of the airdam is very prone to water, vibration, and hits. I mounted a pair of fogs in the airdam on either side of my plate. They're more protected there, and I've never had a problem (unless you count the time I decended a steep hill and smacked the airdam into the ground, but that wasn't the lights fault and I only had to replace the bulbs for $4).

JMT, I had the same problem with my 98. Took it to Ford, and they replaced the wiring harness that ran to the light. Never had a problem after that, but switched out to the PIAA's anyways.

IT'S NOT A LEAK....

I had this same problem, so I pulled out the fog llight housing, caulked avery seal and used plumbers tape around where you put the bulb ib, and they still blew. That's when I knew it was getting an incredable surge of power or something. So I ripped them out again and put in some rectangular Piolt's from Autozone. I'm not very impressed with the Pilots, but they are a lot brighter than stock.
