go for an eaton ls or detroit e locker if u want to go for an air locker but for added traction that wont kill you i person ally would go for an ls front and locker rear

...go with an aussie,...lol...i did i am happy...put it in with new 4.56 gears and i love it...it was like 250 shipped to me...
...i do have to warn you that most everyone loves their locker, and the one they have is the best...:D

I myself am also in the market for a rear locker. Im looking at a aussie for mine.

I was only gonna go for arb but i dont want to give a arm and two legs for it.

thanks for all the advice... I was looking at a detroit... or a powertrax but I might consider aussie... I'm locked in the back - used to have powertrax in the front but sold the whole set-up since I was going to convert to D44 front... change of plans and now I got to get new gears and locker... ls is not a bad idea.

thanks again,

I got an e-z... and it says there not to use tires bigger than 32"...

WTF?

...i believe aussie is the only one without the tire size disclaimer...other locker companies have the disclaimer, but some will still warranty...;)

Might want to re-check that. They say that 'larger than stock' tires voids the warranty. Though I hear they usually fix stuff anyway.

...brian, i'm not used to not seeing your avatar...anyways, this is from aussielocker.com, their faq's, about oversize tires..aussielocker is also a member here and i went into this question with him before i got my locker...;)

What about large tires?
We do not have exclusion in our warranty covering locker use in vehicles with oversized tires. Generally the biggest issue with oversized tires is the diameter of the tires themselves.

Tires should always be run at the tire pressure recommended by the manufacturer. The diameter of the tires should be within 3/8” of each other on the same axle. If one tire has a larger diameter either from pressure difference or manufacturing variances it will cause the locker to constantly lock and unlock creating excessive wear and this will void the warranty. Replace any tire that is outside of the recommended tire diameter allowance.

Another area to consider when installing a locker in a vehicle with oversized tires is that this type of setup puts significantly greater stress on the original equipment manufacturers components in the differential. The locker is designed to withstand these stresses but should another component fail, and the locker is damaged, the locker is not covered under warranty. Under no circumstances does Torq-Masters Technology, Inc, warranty cover parts that we do not supply as part of the order.

Looks like you were right, maybe I misread it, or saw something else, lol.
Thanks for the correction. I do remember reading that paragraph in the instructions I got with the locker though.

...i know when i was looking it seemed like evry locker mfg co. had added the tire size disclaimer...and like dre said, some were calling out 32" tires max...lol, i run those on my dd...most everyone runs 33-35" tires so i talked to several mfg and most said they more or less have that disclaimer as some overly abuse the warranty...that i could see...but i wasn't convinced enough to buy theirs, have an unknown problem, and then find out i was s.o.l....
...the tire size, warranty, fully auto, and the cost sold me for my front locker...i am going to take my time on a rear locker as i think i might want selectable at least until it becomes a trailer queen, then i might just put an aussie in there too, we'll see...:D

Ok well im gonna add this in this thread becuase i dont want to have to start another one and clutter the site.

Im looking for a locker for the rear of my explorer. Aussie is looking really good for now. Front is getting welded up.

...the only thing i know to warn you about is to look up your aussie p/n and see if it is in stock....they seem to run short frequently for the fords...just a heads up...;)

It shows they got it but will it last with the 36's. Im not a hardcore guy. Pretty eash on it.

...i've got 35's, mine is in front, and i've only had it on a 3-4 trails and the dunes once...i say this only that i haven't had it that long, and you can say i've had it on medium trails on the rocks...i am impressed, but again, a new kid with a locker, lol...on aussielocker.com they have several customer writeups, but more importantly, they link to pirate...you might find some good info over there on rigs with 36-37" tires and aussies...;)

The Aussie definitely handles 36's .. i have one on the front D44 and I think sn0wboarder88 (i think?) runs the 8.8 version.

Ok thanks tbars4 and Mr. Senator. ha

Oh and nice symphonic weapon

Edit: thanks for the pm tbars4

So I should not worry about the disclaimer then? I'm a hard core guy... I do go on a trail or two a year... well, now it might change with the build-up... and will only use the front axle off-road... I don't drive this truck as my dd...

thanks for all the advice - now I've got to make a few calls to find the front pig... sold mine... :(
