I'm looking at my options for lifting the suspension on my first gen X about 2" -3" . I have looked at the complete lift kits sold by Superlift, Trailmaster, Tuff Country some other companies, but they are pretty expensive. I have also looked at rear shackles, leaning more towards that option, but i can't find a way to lift the front the same amount. What do you suggest is the cheapest way to lift my X's susension? By the way, im getting a 3 in BL and some 33" tires

Welcome to the site. Most people will tell you to search a 2" coil spacer or F150 coil seat option. That is the most you can get for a budget boost, 3-4" and up requires some changes in brackets or beams and you will start spending more money.

Keep your eyes open for used lifts from guys going solid front axle as well.

Thanks for the help. I have a couple questions regarding the F150 coil seat, does it matter what year F150 the F150 coil seats are made for? also, am i going to have to change my shocks because of the lift?

Warrior shackles in the back
F-150 spring seats

You should change your shocks, but no you do not have to

the spring seats are from 2wd F-150's with beams......the part numbers are located out there. I have pictures in my BII thread:

the spring seat is the black metal part directly under the coil, and this is how it is installed under your spring.
Your truck MUST be 4wd for this to work without needing new bolts.

warning once you have 2" you will want more...

it never ends

Might be worth it to save up and go big right from the start... I could have saved ALOT of $$$ that way buying lift parts I would remove and replace later...

heck i think i have a couple spacers layin around (performance accessories) if you are interested im sure i know where they are.....like 20$ shipped? then all you would need is shackles or aal.

I was thinking about going bigger than 2" but the only thing that keeps me from wanting to go bigger is the notorious problem of Explorers flipping/rolling. How much does lifting actually affect this? and will it be that much difference between the 2" and 4" lifts?

if you drive it like you own it, and not like you stole it, Im sure you can keep the rubber side down. In other words drive it like the SUV it is, not a sports car.
