Hi boys, I am having problems with my fuel system in my truck, I think it is the preasure regulator, the one in the picture, I get very little preasure at the test point on the fuel rail, it justs dribbles out, the motor will run but with a bit of a flutter, I have fitted new injecters & a full new unit in the tank, pump & fuel guage senser complete, & a new fuel filter
The regulator is fitted to the fuel line & crimped onto the regulator, what do I do there to fit a new unit, there is not a lot of fuel line there to play with, every thing in the fuel system is clean & tidy, can anyone advise me weather I cut the line & fit it up, or is ther a better way, a part name & number would be good if anyone has that.
the motor is the SOHC motor & has just been fully rebuilt, hasen't been onthe road yet.any sugestions anyone.

This fuel pressure regulator works with vacuum, you could test it with a vacuum pump. If vacuum is holding on, it should be ok. The fuel pressure regulator feeds the fuel return line to the tank. This part is not available anymore and this quick disconnect stuff is a pain to loosen them.

If your fuel pressure regulator is bad, there is a Bosch/Volvo part that should fit, but you have to use the old Ford o-ring.

For this part you have to cut the braided stainless line and clamp it to the new regulator. (Only read that in this forum)

If your fuel pressure is not about 35-40 PSI, something is wrong with the fuel pump. Maybe a new fuel pump unit is going bad, who knows?
Or this rubber hose is cracked, or clamps are not tight, so pressure will lost.

Did you hear the fuel pump for 2 seconds while ignition on?
Did you still measure the fuel pressure with a matching gauge? The shrader valve on this test port must be pushed in.

Which brand name was on the new fuel pump assembly?

Asking because your fpr is not bad. When they go bad they dump excess fuel.

Let's verify the new pump works.

This must be a 97-early 98 sohc those were the only ones with the fuel pressure regulator on the engine, after this the pressure was regulated in the tank
That part is basically
Impossible to find you would have to build it using the pieces wolliman posted. This is high pressure 40-50 psi so appropriate line and clamps needed

You should have 36-42 psi at the fuel rail
If you do not check your work
Check the return line is clear and no lines got kinked

Verify the fuel pump is powering up and building pressure

Hi, Thank you for your Advice, The pump is working fine, I have disconected the fuel line & ther is a good preasure in the line, It seems to me to be pumping fuel around in circles, I will check the regulator out with a vacume tester & see hqw I go from there, I will Let you know what happens from there,

It’s exceptionally rare that these fail. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but it’s very rare

Thank's for that boys, Just to be sure what I am doing, does the fuel pump into the regulator and lift up on the bottom of the diaphragm & release the valve from it's seat, that's what it looks like to me, it is shutting the valve because I can't blow through it & there is no leakage through the diaphragm, What I cant understand is why I can't get preasure at the shrader valve, If I take the line of the fuel rail & turn the ignition on fuel spurts out of the pipe, so the pump is pumping fuel, The motor will start & run & the reves will go up if I move the throtle valve & will hold the reves steady. I am going out to the workshop to remove the line at the fuel rail on the in line & check that there is not a blockage in that valve, because it will only dribble out as if the pump not working.

The fuel pressure regulator uses engine vacuum to regulate the pressure in the fuel rail

The regulator is on the return side of things, before the fuel is sent back to the tank

Your fuel pump should be making about 50-60 psi of pressure and then it is regulated down to 36-42 psi and whatever is not used by the injectors and is left over is sent back to the tank

There cannot be any blocked and kinks in the fuel lines or fuel filter. The pickup screen in the tank must be clear, etc

Fuel does not open the regulation valve inside the regulator engine vacuum does.

hi thank you, I know the vacume opens the regulator when the engine is running, but when the ignition is turned on before the motor starts what shuts trhe pump of, otherwise the pump would continue to build preasure & something is going give wether the pump or the weakest point I don't know.
