Full tank Gas Mileage

Yea my X was owned by a older woman before I got it so I dont believe that the speed limiter would have been taken off, and I have not messed with it.

I have heard many people say that their 1st gen is not limited. I wonder why this is...???

One of the sites that I remembered.
Maybe yours is broke.
Hummm! I just checked and under reviews it say 91-94 have a gov that limits them to 95 MPH. Maybe you guys have a late model 94 or ???
Its listed on reviews under the motor specs.

nope my mom's was made in 1/94..she's had it up past 100 many times..i was in the truck

How do u know since the speedometers on the 91-94 doesnt go past 85mph?

Someone was next to me in his escape, 105, we thought that was fast enough for a 9 year old truck and took it down a few miles an hour.

If the limiter is broken, would it affect anything else??

we where next to my mom's firend in a new GMC he said we where doin 110mph..the needle was at about the second gear..way past 85mph

I've had the needle almost back around to the 0 peg...had a buddy in a TSi pace me..

I guess the governors don't work. I'm not going to try mine! LOL!
What amazes me more is the Escape doing 105! Isn't that a 4cyl? It must be light.

Not that I know of. Its usually just a seperate mechanical part.

i dont think there is a limiter. when i drove home from school last weekend, my speedo was bouncing off the gear shift indicators and the RPMs were around 4000, so i think its a limitation on the design of the tranny (like its OD gear can only spin so fast w/o redlining the motor) rather than an actual governor.

I know there is a speed governer on our '92.. At one point our speedo read 22% high. That meant at 80mph it read 2 (as in 1 2 d od)...

If we got up to about 85mph you could feel/hear the governor kick in.. Basically it sounded like how it sounds when you hit the redline.. the motor pitch changes and the rpms won't go up any higher...

The base engine for the escape is a 4 cyl, but the one my friend was driving along with most of the escapes had the v6. It is the DOHC 3.0L, 201 hp. It also has a 5 speed tranny; it really moves!

I get about 550 Km on a tank in mine. That's about 340 miles for you guys south of the border. I have a 92 with 256,00 Km and a 5 speed with 3.26 gears. Even on the highway at 70 Mph I am only at 2600 rpm. Actually I just had a new exhaust installed with nothing but straight pipes and a muffler. I'm actually expecting better miles to the tankfull now.

Sweet jeebus! I want that kinda mileage.. :) 250 km to a tank right now... U do a lot of wheeling dude? Maybe we could organize a little run out here, since you're in the passage and I'm 20 mins away...

'98 4.0 (Pushrod), 4x4.
150000km (93000miles)
Averages 450km(279miles)/tank

325-335 miles on a full tank.... I think it averaged 17.3 mpg... 90% highway.
If I went 105mph I would look like  .... then I would :banghead: then :burnout: to the body shop... if it would help at all....

there is defanetly somthing you need to check out. i get 230 and i have a BL, with 35's and never changed gears(although i realy need to)

I usually get between 450-500 k's out of a tank of gas. It depends on the weather, how much time I spend in 4x4 and letting it warm up on the cold days.

jar2187 - I get about 350 out of a tank on my 94 auto 4x4. I get more than what seems to be average around here, but I think yours is lower than average (considering you said you kept the RPMs real low). How many miles are on your truck?

I think you guys are comparing mostly city mileage (230 miles per tank)
versus mostly highway mileage (350 miles per tank).
Surely 350 miles per tank on a 1st gen is mostly highway miles. If it's not, then you need to tell me how you achieve this..
I have 3.27 gears too...

holy crap i ran the thank almost out of gas yesterday,

i had about 304 miles on a full-tank of gas, i filled up today and somehow i got 19.4 gallons of gas in a 19.3 gallon tank!

and that was city/highway mileage

i think i would get around 350 to a tank on highway driving only

My truck is used mostly for highway milage. If it was only for the city, I wouldn't need a Explorer! :can:
