I've had several cars, my 06 F-150 doesnt have that problem, and thankfully it has adjustable pedals. My 08 VW gti pedals were flush when not depressing the pedal, but when on the pedal, there was a stiff rubber flap that hung back so you couldnt move your foot behind the brake pedal, and it was a manual, had same flap on side of clutch so foot couldnt slide behind clutch pedal from dead pedal.

Also, 11 edge sport doesnt have this issue.

My gas pedal is 2.25"s forward of the brake pedal.
