Greetings to all, I'm new around here, and hoped I could get some help with an issue I'm having.

I recently (yesterday) inherited a 1994 Explorer 4.0 v6 which is having a bit of a problem. The truck starts and runs fine, however, the gauges do not work aside from the speedometer. Also, the previous owner told me that the radio and cruise control failed at the same time. He claimed that he had to replace the battery, and upon connecting the new one, this problem started. The only solutions that I can come up with are that a ground got disconnected somewhere, or possibly the pcm is bad. I did recheck the ground connections that are connected to the battery, and everything seems to be secure, so I'm at a loss.

Is it possible that the pcm would cause all of these things to fail at once, or am I looking in the wrong direction?

Can you do a scanner ??...may be the solution and give you the code problems.

check all fuses

And the PCM would not cause such problems.

And welcome to the forum!

Sorry, I should have added that all the fuses have been checked and rechecked several times. This has got me rather confused.

hmmmmm

all that points right at a fuse.

Did you check the fuses under the hood? dont think that could be it but hey why not?

maybe a bad connection somewhere after the fuse :dunno:

the speedo is the only non electrical gauge thats why its still working.

Yeah I checked the fuses under the hood, they all seem to be fine.

Definately an electrical problem!

I recreated your problem by pulling fuse # 7 in the fusebox under the dash.(drivers side)

No power to the instrument panel guages is definately a problem with the # 7 circuit!

Fuse 11 circuit is the radio.

I hope this helps! ;)

Well that's a start, that at least gives me an idea on where to begin looking, thanks :D

You sir, are my hero! I checked the fuse box under the dash again, and lo and behold there was no fuse in the number 7 spot. I popped in a 30amp to check it, and there it is, it's working now. As for the radio, I think that might just be because the radio is a craptastic wal mart issue aftermarket cd player that just quit working. You have my sincerest gratitude, thanks.

Pick up a 15 AMP fuse and stick in #7 slot instead! Then you will be at OEM fuse rating!

Glad to be of help! :)
