Hello,
I’m a newbie needing a little input. I just bought a ’94 XLT and am wondering if these gears seem to be right. I decided on the 4.56. The reverse cut in the front D35 is the slightly scarey one, so I thought I would run these part numbers by the experts here – It is allot of money for me and I don’t want to make a mistake. .

I would also need the install kits

and 20 bolts

Do those look alright? Good Gear choices? Price seems good to me?

Hey Chad. Welcome. Fine bunch of folks over this way.

Let me add some info for Chad. Chad is going to try to keep an A4LD in this truck and will use as a daily driver also. He has 31's on it now and wants to go to 33's and a 4" suspension lift down the road. He is trying to get it ready for a trip to Colorado in August. It will be driven out there wheeled and driven back (that's the plan anyway).

I guess the 31's rub just a little bit now. The 4" lift kit he has is from a Bronco II. He plans on using a new short AAL in the rear and aftermarket shackles. The front kit is complete but uses a plate to drop the drivers side TTB bracket (the one the passangers side TTB arm attaches to). He was going to put this on a Bronco II with a Dana 28 front axle and I figured he'd be safe with at most a bit of grinding to keep the plate from hitting the front third member. But I'm not sure we can grind enough on the Dana 35 third member.

So 2 questions I'd like folks to respond to:

1. Are the Accu gears good enough to put in the rear for DD and long highway trip use? (they will be professionally set up)

2. Will the plate in the front 4" lift kit clear the thrid member with grinding?

Thanks for adding more info Jack...

Thanks also Brooklyn. I guess I should have mentioned the 4.56 gears will put me at the correct ratio for where I want to be.

I dont think he ever asked for the axle codes...

As for you actual question, those d35 gears dont mention reverse cut anywhere but as far as I know high pinion uses reverse cut gears. I would call and make sure. Depending on what kits you get the ring gear bolts may come with them so i would look into that as well. As for the quality of the gears themselves, ive never hear of them which probably speaks to their quality.

This is where I go for my gears and install kits,

very good prices and free shipping right now.

If he has a 4X4, then I think he should match both sets of gears to the same ratio. You don't want one axle spinning faster or slower than the other one. The same problem would be using 14" rims in the front, and 16" rims in the back. 4X2 is easier to play with. You only have to replace the speedometer gear to compensate.

of course he should, whats your point? And what do axle codes have to do with that?

he asked about both sets in his first post. He never said he was going to install and run only one

Easy there guys :-) I'm your above average newbie. My question is has anyone heard of these gears before. Used them or know anything about them. Also does it look to be the right parts for the 94 xploder?

Brooklyn - Thank you for your info... I have 3:27s now. If you put all the numbers together the ratio with the new tires is 3:30, with 4:56 gears. Thats about as close as one can get to original. And yes I would be buying gears for both front and rear.

Sn0border: thanks for the info. I think the R in the part number refers to reverse cut. I will be phoning in the order to make sure. As to the site you posted- I'll do some looking tonight, $$$ is tight but I only want to by them once :-) -- I'll be in ohio soon and might try and tour the timken factory which is right down the road from where I will be. Thanks again :-)

Yes the front d35 is reverse cut in 1st gen explorers and regular cut in 2gen and later

subcribing for my project X....:D
