'96 XLT
We have a '96 XLT, leather, sunroof, etc. 115K miles, have had it since new and about to buy new set of tires. Sounds like Michelin XLT M/S is the way to go. What about comparable tire from indie Big O or similar? Also, since this is a V-6 I have often felt it was underpowered. How to increase?
Any other suggestions? We use it mainly as family car but some off road too, esp here in New Mexico. Also live in very rural area. E-mail welcome and thanks in advance for this site and your good advice.

For awhile I ran the Micheline cross terrain suv. I don't know about your conditions, but here I was satisfied. They seemed to have very good traction on slippery stuff, and were very quiet on highway. They are now on my dodge truck but have lasted since the tire recall thing. Also, they don't hold and throw rocks much.

Cant say much about the French tires but as for mods on a family vehicle; I'd do an oil impregnated filter like a K&N (or the 20 new copycats on the market) because it will only cost you about $50 at any autoparts store and save you 7.99 every time you do 3k service. If you want to spend some money...exhaust, pullies, chip...do a search, it's all out there.

For a family vehicle I would reccommend the michelin LTX's. They have been on my explorer for the past 89,000 and show very few signs of falling apart. They have excellent traction in all road conditions and still have the ability to move soil when I am off road. The P255/70/16's do exibit more side wall flex then I would like to have on a tire that goes offroad but I can't bring myself to taking them off untill the tred wears down some a noticable amount more. As for performance upgrades I would say and after market intake, such as a K&N FIPK or a MAC intake would be good, along with a cat back exhaust. It might be easier to go to an exhaust shop and tell them that you would like something that provided a little more power with the minimal amount of tome at the saem time. A flowmaster hushpower II, 50 or 60 series may also work. After you catch the modification bug then you can change the headers add a chip, coils plugs and wires and throw in a 4" lift mud terrains and a super charger

I am getting 31x10.50x15 pro comp xterrains on my ford explorer sport 1999. Do yall think that would look good? I have the stock suspension. I have no lift. I really dont want to get a lift. Please let me know what you think. Your opinion will really be helpful to me. Thanks.
