Getting Torque Monster Headers soon

I'm going to try to order my tmh this week too. I havn't been able to sleep haha. I put 1.7 rocker arms on my mountaineer, and its been a nightmare ever since. The driver side valve cover wouldn't clear the 1.7's, then the steel one i found leaked bad. I bought a nice set of a mustang, after pulling the upper intake 7 times, i told myself if something doesn't fit i'm going with the tmh's and 1" spacer. So sure enough they fit but did not clear the egr tube on the passenger side. So i'm ponying up the cash and doing it right..

I've got one of those egr valves, where the bung is on the side not the bottom but couldn't figure out how to get it to work.. i'm probably going to have to tweak my egr tube with the tmh's. I was having problems with the tube cracking so i went to ford and they had an updated egr tube for this motor, its basicly the same but its solid, no flexible ribs, and seems slightly thicker. So i gained a tube that wouldn't crack and leak, but now i want the tmh's, i lose the little bit of give i might need.

Ok so i got a hold of Bob yesterday over the phone. Im gonna end up paying just the $689, and he's taking away the shipping fee for me (thanks alot). He's also sending a custom EGR tube in from Ford too. Sounds good. But Im gonna order it next weekend instead and then order the spacer probably 2 weeks later. So Im guess this project is looking like mid- feburary right now which is fine. I still got Tax returns coming in soon too.

Did you tell bob you were going to add the spacer? If not make sure you do, or the egr tube won't fit, we had to modify my stock one and use it instead.

Yes I did because he asked me about whether I was going to order the spacer or not and I said yes.

I bought my tmh's today..they're in production, done late next week..., so i'm expecting them in 2 weeks i think? Great, 2 weeks without sleep...haha

ok so when u ordered did u talke to Bob or use the site to get the discount?? Im about to order mine too.

well nevermind. FINALLY I have ORDERED THE HEADERS and YES its with the modified EGR tube. I will have to wait 2 weeks to order the manifold spacer. I'm so broke right now but extremely excited.:D :D So I think Im lookin at 3 to 4 weeks from now for that project jtsmith.

well i'm about as prepared as i can be so the day they come, i'm putting them on, got my intake spacer, the boots for the plugs, intake gasket set..

My install should be fun...while changing a manifold gasket a few months back i broke a manifold bolt off in the head... kinda half-a$s tapped it but if im going through all this work i might have to pull the head off to try to get it all the way out. I pulled the trans 2 weeks ago..This should be nothing compared to that.

hey tekman when are your headers supposed to be done??

Bob said 1 to 2 weeks and that was last friday. I got a dilema I owe the bank money because I guess the shipping charges wasn't dropped in the discount which was supposed to be the discount. This ain't good!

Ok so besides the spacer, is there anything else I "HAVE" to have in order to have these headers put safely on?

It will help greatly to have a set of "spectre" brand header bolts- 1" long
The allen head bolts really help a lot. They come with the allen socket wrench
here is what they look like-you can get them at autozone off the rack. They will be in the chrome engine bling area.

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_756827_-1_10645

also-I'd like to know the type of gasket which comes with the headers.

A tube of permatex ultra copper
http://www.carshopinc.com/product_info.php/products_id/42301/81878

will help seal it up good. I'm not sure if autozone has permatex products--but get only that-permatex ultra copper
you might need to go to orielly's for it.

the spark plugs will be removed-also the air box. Your truck will be torn apart, so if there is any maintenance you want to take care of in there-well.

Well I have the MAC Cool air intake instead of the stock airbox. But I'll keep those in mind once The headers actually get her and I'll be sure and let u know the type of gaskets that come with the headers.:) Btw I appreciate all the help in helpin me get prepared for this. This is by far the biggest aftermarket thing Im about to do the Explorer by far.

What are you using the rtv on? Coating the manifold gaskets (both sides) ? I'm don't want to be toasting through plug wires, Boots are a necessity? The gaskets are probably just a standard paper/graphite/fiber/who knows, Anybody try aluminum or copper or foil wrapped gaskets? Still don't know when they're coming though.. so i've been keeping busy making nice sway bar discos, and put a home depot CAI on my old ladys 5cyl colorado.

I wouldn't coat the gaskets, just the little gasket between the two parts on the drivers side. I'd go with the fel-pro soft lead gaskets, they have been great on mine. If the paper/fiber gaskets come with the headers, throw em away and buy the quality gaskets. I'd strongly suggest getting spark plug boots, it makes it easier to route your wires because you don't have to worry so much about exact wire placement. You can get them for $35 for a set of 8 from AutoZone, Accel brand.

lol now I'm confused

it would help if we knew what you were confused about so we could un-confuse you
The gaskets if they explains anything, so I shouldn't use the ones that come with the headers?? I just need to know everything I need to mkae this headers project flow as smooth as possible.
