RICK
Don't listen to her, she really doesn't know what she is talking about. I think it was the altitude on Sunday or something.

It will be done tomorrow around noon.

Totally rad Rick....looks great!

I notice a color change on one of the pics, is that an orange primer coat or the color before clearcoat?

I had a different orange in my head, but this color looks just right.

Then again, maybe it's the lighting that makes the color change......

Rick, now you'll find it in the parking lot (not that you had that problem before).
I had a '71 VW with a color like that. I believe they called it Clementine.

Rick, Are you going to have them paint the wheel wells orange or leave them black???
Make sure they touch them up if you are leaving them black, because that makes it look a LOT better. You will notice since it freshly painted any of the black trim that isn't painted will look bad.
I guess a good fix for that is get the new stuff dirty.

Perry, they are giving the whole chassis a coat of black chassis paint. It will definatley look clean when it leaves their shop.

2001exp, the color that is lighter has been sanded it isn't a finished panel.

Peter, you're right, I won't lose it in a parking lot :D BTW I have a photo shoot scheduled for next friday with our friend from Four Wheeler magazine.

Did anyone notice the protrusion behind the rear tire has been cut off?

I did notice that! Dang Rick Im jealous, wish I coudl get em to do a write up on mine, but all in all compared with others its not quite as modified as others. Good luck on getting on a cover or something! That would be some great publicity for the site and everyone else! Think maybe I could put my Explorer in the background or something? :)

So Rick, is it a base coat clear coat or just single stage?
If it is clear coat, how many coats did they put on? I think we put 6 on ours, but then when you color sand it you take one or maybe two off.

Rick,
Noticed that you changed your wheels. Do you still have the old 15x8s?? Are they the stock 5 by 4.5 bolt pattern?? If you do, I might want to buy them off you depending on their condition, and if I can scrap up some money. I really love the look of your old wheels, and they will complement the new look of my Expo, once I get the money to finish it of course. Oh yeah, what was the price of just the new fiberglass front end if you don't mind me asking?? Thanks a lot Rick.

Rick...I must say it's looking damn impressive! Not to mention, what all explorer lovers have wanted...an explorer in a magizine. I'm assuming it's for a feature...But I must say congrats on all the hard work you've put into it...I'd love mine to look like that, but being in college....funds dont exactally allow....I'm guessing you'll be the Wickedest in the West now! Hopefully one day i could match ya but I could dominate the midwest! Anyway...keep up the good work and the site kicks more ass now than when I started!
Thanks, Pete

Perry, it is clear coated, how many coats, I don't know. I made sure that they used clear coat, so when I drag it through the brush it will scratch the clear and not the base color. My factory paint job lasted a long time because I was always able to remove the scrathes with a light polish and then wax the truck to protect it. It's amazing how a good wax job will protect the paint from scratches even when you're dragging it through mesquite, creosote, and cactus.

My old rims were sold a while ago, sorry.

Good choice with the clear coat. Just don't wax it right a way, let the paint cure. They should tell you all about that if you don't already know.
Clear coat is a good thing sometimes. Looking forward to seeing it in person. Hope it is still looking good when we meet up at Moab.

Matt, maybe you could be in the back ground as the lighting !! LOL Then maybe they would think it is the sun with all that orange.

I hope it's in good shape for Moab also. I don't see why not unless getting a new paint job jinxs me. :D Everyone said I was going to tear up my flame graphics, yet they only had a couple scratches that went through the paint. Same with the original paint job, lots of surface marks, but nothing deep. If I can make this paint job last another 7 years I'll be a happy camper!

One of the first things I'm going to do is get someof that aluminized insulation for under the hood to help protect the paint.

Rick, seems like everybody knows about the shoot of your rig except me. Must have missed a post here or there. Just can't keep up with all the posts these days.
I'm sure Michael is gonna do your truck justice. It'll be great to see it in FourWheeler.
By the way, I send a condensed version of our Rubicon trip report to Mark (the editor). He's going to keep it in his back pocket for a while in case he needs a filler. Here is part of his communication with me:"The Rubicon is a little hardcore for my guys, but I wouldn't mind keeping it to fit in somewhere down the line."
We'll see.

4WD & Sport Utility is better for the real trail articles. I'm meeting Trent Riddle at the Arizona State Jamboree for a possible feature in his publication also. That will be the week after the Fourwheeler shoot.

BTW, nobody knew about the shoot until I mentioned it today. That is except for Perry, I told him yesterday.

Rick, I misread Matt's post. I guess he referred to the 'protrusions'. I thought he meant the shoot. Doesn't matter anyway. Good luck and let's hope for a cover.

Is the step ladder to get into the truck going to be painted the same color or are you getting a rope ladder instead. A friend of mine installed two of those electric steps that come down when you open the door, retract up by the frame when closed. He needed them to get in because of his 15" lift and 38" tires.

Anyways, it looks good. Hope you get a picture of it sitting in a pumpkin patch, perhaps waiting for the 'Great Pumpkin' to arrive. LOL... Man I kill myself sometimes.
