Hey all, I went this morning to get an estimate on a dual exhaust for my 2005 Explorer V8...after looking at my car they pointed out that they can do the dual but it will look "Cheesy" from the back because it will hang too low. So I asked if they could put on a single with dual tip...they said yes....and here is what they quoted me on....

Flow Master 40 Series............$167.35
Dual Tipp Rolled....................$269.70
Single Tip Rolled...................$159.00
2.5 Axile Pipe.......................$65.00
Labor..................................$134.52

Now I know some of these prices are steep...however, they did say that I could buy the parts elsewhere and have them assemble it....so I would like to know from you guys where i can find these parts for less money...especially the dual tip....

Thanks again all!

Wow. How do you say outrageous ....

Hope they kissed you first.

IN CA they wont be in business long with those prices!
05 Ex must be tricky with the IRS

Wow, I put my Gibson on for $310 total = 250 + 60 labor.
I go shop somewhere else

Take your money and RUN!

I would buy the Flowmaster's online and bring them with me to another shop that will do it at a fair price. That shop you went to wants WAY too much.

Hahaha....I know that is what I said....so I am thinking of finding another muffler guy to put everything on once I order it online....

So, where are some websites where I can find these parts for resonable prices....also, what kind of 40 Flowmaster do I want (Series 40, Delta 40 or the Super 40)?

Thanks!

Ultimately, the flowmaster you choose will depend on the sound you are going for. I would personally go for the dual orignal 40's, but I loooove a nice sounding, loud exhaust on a V8. Others will chime in with their opinions to give you and idea.

As for where to buy? You can check out Dead Link Removed or even http://www.ebay.com to get you started.

I purchased a gibson exhaust from stylinconcepts.com; later found out it was just a replacement muffler and pipe, anyways it cost me $255 for the exhaust and $35 instalation that rattled for months. I wish I had purchased a custom dual exhaust.

I got the gibson exhaust also from stylinconcepts.com for $255, installed it myself, (Easy to put on, ***** to get off. took about 2 hours), but it also rattles on the bumper or shock when im in low speed overdrive. Kinda irritating, but sounds good. I think im going to just get the pipe rerun from the back of the muffler. but with the K&N cold air intake, the thing has a lot more oomph and sounds awesome.

We recently had a newer Explorer in our shop the other day with the new IRS and I took a look at it and there is a lot back there. There's no real space for any pipe to run except like possibly right over the differential. There's the gas tank, suspen parts, a/c lines that run in the back - and not to mention the spare tire. I would stick with a single tip - no duals for a IRS! Just my opinion

Thanks Drew....that is what we saw from underneath...lots of ****...plus he would have to run it right under the fuel tank...I don't need dual exhaust that bad to run it under the fuel tank....I think I am just going to go with the single exhaust.

YEAH we have a winner, Single is BETTER.

IRS = holey moley CV axles in the back of a truck? Whats this A arms go above the frame rails? WOW, good luck with duals, duals are for fullsize trucks and muscle cars....

there are muscle cars with IRS that have dual exhuast. i've never looked up a 3rd gen X so i can't comment on that, but IRS and dual exhaust can be done. i've seen in on these Xs too, but didnt look to see how they routed it.

oh yeah anything can be done, exhaust guys are creative :)
I personally think less is morejust because I go 4x4ing and try to wedge rocks up in every crevasse.....
